After playing maybe too many porn games for a few lifetimes I suddenly gained enlightenment and realized that while sex in games good, a good story just hits differently. Some games that made the blood go to the upper head and not the lower for me are:
"Corporate Culture"
"Out of touch"
"Mist"
What other games would you consider continuing playing/replaying even if sex was completely removed?

First one that comes to mind is Degrees of Lewdity, with a bit of work you could probably make it into a decent dark life sim, and I basically treat the game as a dress up simulator at this point anyway lol-

Sengoku Rance and Huniepop are pretty fun purely gameplay wise too

Too bad it was canceled, felt like it had a lot of potential at the beginning for a really dark and messed up type of game. For some reason though it started feeling kinda pretentious along the way, like in the later updates.

You may be getting DoL mixed up with something else, it's still being developed afaik, fortunately

Damn, you're right, I was thinking about Lessons in Love. Sorry.

Monster Girl Quest Paradox, I don't even like most sex scenes in that game to begin with, but the way you can mix and match classes, races, and unique character traits is pretty damn fun. Corruption of Champions if also a solid option, I even looked for games like it without any porn stuff, but the closes one i found was Kingdom of Loathing, which is not really the same.

Do HTML games count? if so, The Princess Trap is definitely one I've come to appreciate. It has very engaging writing and dynamics despite the fact I'm not personally into the kinks the game explores. It's still getting some love with updates, too.

Another one, not text-based game that comes to mind is Dohna Dohna. The dark theme and satire, writing, combat and management aspects already gives it pretty good value beyond its adult content.

I am probably underselling these :coffee:

The first one that comes to mind is Cosy Cafe for me. The lewd stuff is great too in the game but the relationships and how they build up is done in such a good way that I'd definitely play it even without any of the adult content.

I remember playing this one and liking it a lot for the false hero archetype.

I played it at the beginning, I've liked how the dynamics change though I haven't followed the updates. Does it stick to the formula of the protagonist as an alpha male?

Haven't played any of them so I will gladly give it a chance! Thanks!

Yeah, no changes there really. It does definitely lean towards maledom which usually isn't my cup of tea but I make an exception for this game since I feel that it's been done in a good way.

Mist as you say, as the writing and story are good enough to be a VN indie game.
A House in the Rift, may be biased since this is my favorite one but the story and characters are just great for me.
Once in a Lifetime, it has a generic plot but I think it's good enough to pass as a good VN without the scenes.
Haremon, surprisingly has a great combat system and to be fair you're doing the combat most of the game anyways instead of the dating scenes.

Doesn't a house in the rift feel like it barely moves forward though?

I felt that way too. Maybe I just didn't stick with it long enough. It was fun, don't get me wrong. I just wasn't sure what I was waiting for.

Yeah, I get you, it felt like the game had made most of the progress in the first 3,4 updates and then just started chasing its tail. I replayed the game at least 6 times with at least 3,4 updates in between and it was sad how less new content there was.

I'll likely go back to it eventually, see what I missed. It's a popular game, and as I said, I did have fun
