The reason Cinn gave earlier for setting these release dates was because he felt pressured about people thinking the game was abandoned. At this point I think Cinn has received more than enough bashing. Yeah, he made some poor estimates, it's just a matter of not estimating at all in the future if it can't realistically be done. It's better to just say 'I'm still working on it, don't expect anything soon' simpliciter. We can just let it rest and let Cinn do whatever he feels like doing. More criticism about the dev's past decisions with estimations won't change the facts and won't motivate him either.
The clear reason why I put a date out there was because I felt pressured.
People said the game is abdonded so I saw in my calender and picked a date far in the future which I thought is an easy
thing to do in that given time. But then over and over again I had to deal with IRL stuff like my own company and such.
Since most of you people don't know how it feels to publish a game and the preassure feeling and reading every comment etc.
you cannot feel what I felt like. So giving it a date to release the game feels good so it gets more real, so I force myself to do so.
I am not sure if it comes accross why I set a date but yeah its just bc people start asking and saying the game is abdonded.
Its not a real excuse but thats how I felt.... anyway for next release/update after chapter 3 we will do things total differently you will see.
Love Cinn :3
I don't think simply saying he's working on it will fix that. Something more akin to progress reports would be better. We can all tell that bashing Cinn for the delays isn't productive, hurts motivation, ETC. But not enough people are paying attention to what Cinn ACTUALLY SAID bothers him. We can't just be considerate of the rude comments that we all can tell are bad and unhelpful. We also need to be considerate of what Cinn has said bothers him. That people think the game is abandoned.
In Cinn's comment he states that this really pressures him and is the underlying cause of what pressured him into giving these release dates in the first place. The support over the missed deadlines is helpful but we also need to help Cinn figure out a way that he can be satisfied in people not assuming the game is abandoned despite long development times. Release dates are a bad way of doing this since they can be really inaccurate but simply saying that Cinn should just do whatever he feels like or give minimal communication isn't taking into consideration Cinn's own feelings.
Cinn states that since most of us don't know how it feels to be a dev we cannot know what he feels. We can only go by his own comments on the matter. And if the long development time or appearance of being abandoned or not being worked on bothers him then we need to find a way that he can alleviate that feeling in a more reliable way. I don't know if progress reports can help because it can also be hard to gauge how much progress has been made in a given update but something akin to that might be a better solution.
