kinda a bit late on that goal -- The US Mint officially stopped making pennies in May. The Treasury Department estimated shortages would start in early 2026, but they actually came much sooner. Banks can't get pennies from the federal government, so businesses can't get them from the banks. Kinda shortsighted on the government cost cutting goals -- less pennies means more likely reliance on nickels, which cost even more to produce – 13.78 cents, the U.S. Mint says.Complicated stuff, but worth a lot of pennies.
