Some games take place in fantastical medieval era others in modern times and some in sci-fi space

What is your prefered setting or in which you feel most comfortable when you play SFW / NSFW games?

For me it would be Dark Medieval Fantasy specifically for both SFW and NSFW games

Favorite Games in that setting are:
Black Souls, Dark Souls, Fear & Hunger, Lona RPG and SINISIstar

I like Dark Souls settings, medival european style with dark and bloom atmosphere.
I also like Steampunk era from Bioshock Infinite

I am an all-you-can-eat kind of guy. I like dark and oppressive (Dark Souls-style) just as much as I like magical and whimsy. It all depends on how well-written the lore and setting itself is, to be honest. A world that is dark and miserable, just for the sake of being dark and miserable, does not appeal to me, just as much as a world that is full of goodwill and vibrant just for the sake of it has no emotional depth either. In the Warhammer universes you get a solid reason as to why the state of the world is a perpetual war-obsessed fuckfest.

But a personal favorite spice of mine in world settings is when the creator leaves enough implications and details for the viewer/reader/player/whatever to draw their own conclusions. FromSoft excels at this. And the book series A Song of Ice and Fire (sadly unfinished and will most likely remain that way) has a ridiculous amount of uncanny and fascinating lore that is lurking around the fringes of the world and the central narrative. Never fully elaborated on, but just enough to tickle the reader's imagination and make them come up with their own ideas. Implications of "what might be" is far often more intriguing and/or horrifying than someone telling you "what is".

for NSFW
real life modern day mostly because most gamemakers aren't great writer. that makes it so that when they create a setting you get mixed results, some give you lore dumps that are a pain to read, some flesh out the world too little, and mostly you get inconsistent lore.
real life makes it so that they don't have to do worldbuilding

for SFW
something about sci-fi just works for me.

High fantasy is my go to, anything with magic/spells etc. Medievil is a good setting as well. Not a massive fan of Sci fi/futuristic settings

I'm the total opposite lol. 😅 No magic, no unreal stuff and no creatures. If it's a medieval setting it should be historical but to be fair, there aren't many good ones. Sci-fi is even worse (it's unreal by design) so for me it should be roughly our timeline to get the most immersion.

good question medieval, fantasy, current life suits me very well, the future is not my strong poin

A perfect world for me in gaming is always a Sci-fi one, love futuristic landscapes, the more tech more fun for me

My favorites are normal settings, post apocalypse, scifi and punk (cyberpunk, dieselpunk, atompunk, solarpunk..).

I really enjoy a good sci-fi setting, and it's a shame there aren't more new ones. Mass Effect is an awesome setting, and then the developers crapped the bed with their actual games and never looked back so it's been sitting entirely unused for the last- holy crap, 13 years!? (Discounting Andromeda because we're talking about setting and Andromeda drops the cool one for one way less interesting.

I like good fantasy settings as well, specifically ones that break out of the Tolkien path and tell something original (not that he wasn't great, his stuff is so good that imitators fall flat basically by default). Tamriel is a particular favorite of mine... and another one that hasn't been meaningfully explored in over a decade...

Si-fi or Dark fantasy are pretty good.

For SFW and NSFW is the same list, in mostly the same order.

My favorite settings in order are: Urban Fantasy, Classic High Fantasy, High Sci-Fi (including cyberpunk), Victorian Era (including steam punk), and Gothic Sci-Fi (Dune, Warhammer 40K type stuff)

Other's not as much in order: Post Apocalypse, Zombies, Noir, Wild West, and Gothic Horror.

And the ones towards the bottom (again not in order) that I rarely enjoy: Triller, Mystery, Hard Sci-fi, Low Fantasy, and Modern/Historical Mundane stories. I almost always wish they had a little something mor to them.

The bottom: Other types of Horror.

I fuck wit anything fantasy, Post Apocalypse is cool too

I like detailed futre or space worlds. I love when a game makes an atmosphere with the world its playing

for a NSFW game ?
Current day setting. I like to keep things close to reality at least in the setting. Added plot devices outside of realism are fine, but overall world should be based on current real world.

for SFW games ..anything goes. Though im partial to Sci-Fi and Fantasy over real world.

I have no preference. I want the world building to make sense and the story to be good. It can sci-fi, fantasy, future, past, present,. It does not matter.

In most games, high adventure fantasy, go questing, save a princess from a dragon kind of deal. Very "simple" morality and just enjoy being the good guy against the bad guy.

if the game plays well I don't care about the world or lore

I have always been a sucker for fantasy stuff since I was a kid. That hasn't changed much, LotR, Isekai anime (Isekai trash rise up), whatever, if you put it into a medieval fantasy style of story, I will be checking it out. Sci-fi stuff can be fun too, but magic systems will always draw my attention more than lazer guns and lightsabers. That goes for SFW and NSFW, there are plenty of fun things you can do in a porn game with that kind of setting, not the least being including a cast of attractive non-human characters.
