It really depends, are you talking about setting for porn games, or like books and what not?

For porn games I'm very much a fan of modern settings, as long they are not the 2178453245th story about a guy that is about to go to college.

For books I'm more of a fan of fantasy settings.

Modern. And the closer to reality, the better. Although you should be aware of the conventionality of the world in porn games, it's more like urban fantasy anyway.

Porn: Modern.

Normal: Cyberpunk.
Mostly because cyberpunk has advance technology without making the world meanless.
A big problem with sci fi is that everything outside your ship might as well not exist for how little effect it has.

The other half is just fine.

Prefer a modern setting, but as some others have already said really depends on the quality of the game. A good game in another world setting can be enjoyable.
