Not really, if the pop is growing that just means they have enough food to keep the a lot of the people born alive.
It will plateau in the population charts if there was a real scarcity that made it impossible to sustain the growth.
Overall, it means there is enough food of whatever quality to keep growing the population malnourished or not, it is enough to keep them alive.

When resources are scarce, the chances that your offspring live long enough to take care of you are lower. Also in today's society there is no need for your children to take care of you because of better social healthcare. We need to find more reasons for people to reproduce if we don't want to wither in numbers outside of 3rd world countries.

But in those countries it's growing A LOT. They expect eventually 10 billion unless something drastically changes. That kind of change would likely require mass starvation or a disease that makes COVID at its most contagious time combined with its most lethal time look like the common cold.

It most likely won't be anything like that. Eventually they're likely to go through the same thing India and East Asia did- remember way back when when everyone thought there'd be like 10 billion Chinese by 2030? Now China's looking at drastically slowing growth largely from the dynamics of their own increased wealth (and the policies they put in place when they were as scared of their numbers as everyone else).

Because we have civilization, which means our #1 resource is usually manpower. When food is scarce for lions, an extra lion is extra competition for what's available; when food is scarce for humans, we do more farming so more humans can generate more food than they consume. So at multiple scales when other resources are scarce, more people is useful for increasing them.

Obviously that hits hard limits at some point, but in the meantime a population shortage is way more threatening to a society than a population excess.

Well that wont be the case for long. World population is barely growing and that is just because of Africa. Outside of Africa and central Asia only a handful of countries are even at replacement rate.
