Yeah, heard they rewrote it multiple times and the final version was a somewhat bland but pasable story.

But it's a disney live action and that's bad enough.

I think most of people hate comes from the production and not from the movie itself.

To be fair the old disney movie is indeed a little old and the style can be a little unfamiliar to childreen but a) a live action is not the solution b) disney sucks at writing lately c) the money is indeed most likely the only reason they are doing it.

I'm a middle aged man who has Snow White on VHS and watched all of these Disney movies as they came out.

Animated Lion King was released over 30 years ago. Live action was released 25 years after.

It was aimed at a totally different generation, just like all of these new ones are. And that's ok.

From everything I've heard and what I've seen with the trailers, the movie is a 4 at best. Gadot's acting as the Queen was objectively bad, they bloated it with too many side characters, and they tried a ham-fisted message where they had to very blatantly tell rather than show the moral, which I feel is a pretty bad failing of demonstrating a moral.

It's definitely an obsession with money. Live action is cheaper than animation (though, that's not really the case with the Lion King, that's 100% animation), and they don't need to do as much writing if they just reuse existing material. Everything about a corporation is about profit margins.
