My Brothers played FFXI from 2003, I tried to get into it so late around 2008-2009 during College, but I was so far behind, that I just couldn't get into my own character. I did play it on my Brothers account, when he was busy, because he did Endgame and such. I wish I started when they did, but I'm very familiar with it, I was actually on his account when he got his Attestation of Decisiveness to get his Amanomurakumo for his Samurai. Funny story, he had me farming a Thief Knife for him, then helped a friend do Sky, I didn't erase his Tonberry Hate, because I was going to do it later. I didn't know he'd get hit with Everyone's Rancor for 50k damage, when his character had like 1200-1300 HP. A core memory of mine from the game.

And yes, tonberrys were fun! And yeah thief knife farming was a thing for a lot of endgame players.

No, some Japanese artist who played the game made it.

Game was unique as a MMO in that you could level all the classes on 1 character. You could go to your home and switch. Exp was unique to each class, but it was a cool system.

So that's where FFXIV inherited the class switch system from, I guess that's where gameplay similarities end.

It was a brutal game. I ran one of the top linkshells on Pandemonium server for NA players. WE did Sky, Sea, etc... The games was the biggest time sync of any MMORPG I've ever played.

Like I remember getting a party together, just to sit in one place and kill enemies, as the fast way to level. and once you got to 70...a full night of playing 3-5 hours was ONE level. And if you die, you LOST EXP. Game was special and unique but would never fly today. Good memories though. People mostly looked out and helped eachother and the community was one of my favs.

I did pretty much all of that, on my Brothers account. I quit before Abyssea was a thing, if I stuck around longer with trusts or whatever, I could've caught up. I loved Promathia and Aht Urghan, but not so much Wings. The last thing I did before quitting was complete my own Usukane set. Sadly, I only had a few level 75 jobs, before the job cap increase. I got my Brother his Maat Cap. I just couldn't play anymore because I started double majors, and 2 hours of classes felt like 8 hours of homework. So, no time for much else.

Yup. FFXIV was great to. I've played a lot of MMORPGs over the past 25 years, but it's still #1 for me. It just had everything I feel.

Be careful what you wish for -- I live in the country and am surrounded by forest preserve. The first time you see a deer in the vegetable garden you say "oh how cute!" and you grab your camera.
The second time you see a deer in the vegetable garden it has a couple fawns with it and you say -- "Oh how cute" and you grab your camera
The third time the deer visits your vegetable garden and proceeds to eat everything - all you want to do is grab a gun.

Your 270 pounds of dog don't care about them, do they? Both my labs have had an unhealthy Hatred towards deer.

If you were granted a single limit-free wish to change the world in some way, what would you wish for?

probably something like bringing the, non combat, technology from star trek into this world

Immortality with Eternal Youth and never able to get sick or the ability to heal all disease and ailments, for anyone including myself.

the ability to safely create portals into alternate realities
(safely as in I wont appear in front of dangerous animals or a radioactive environment or something)
If the multiverse is real I'm sure there's better technology I could bring back with me

That's how you get yourself a dystopia. Since death/injury is off the table - all property (and weak bodies) are up for grabs. Immortal warbands clashing with each other for fine goods and slaves across the wilderness.
Oh, and eventual overpopulation. And throwing immortals into open space as punishment.

You were technically correct, but I was thinking of isolating it to myself or someone else, and being altruistic about it. I've just always disliked knowing people die when they shouldn't. Everyone having said abilities would be terrible as you said.

If people didn't die or age, we wouldn't need as much procreation, because the preservation of the species wouldn't rely on continued lineages, it would be other factors. It could be Chaotic, though, the aspects and possibilities are actually really interesting. It would be neat if it was basically a lottery, and just a select few were granted Immortality by forces unseen, but the criteria excluded people that took advantage of people or that would potentially abuse it.

that way if you ever did get into a situation where you're stuck in space or something, there's the option
and if you ever regret giving someone immortality, simple fix
