I mean other services suck I mean look at GOG they give you installer and you own it but at the end of the day no one really cares about it.
Consistence access is what people actually care about. Convenience is still king so until Steam becomes inconvenient I doubt there will be a sudden boom in game piracy in the PC space.

Yea, I've used steam for so many years that I cant really switch to any other launcher. I get so many friends telling me about the free games on Epic launcher, but I cant be bothered managing my games between multiple launchers.

I get my free games from steam underground so sticking to steam is the most logical.
They already captured the market so unless something big happens other game service are kinda unappealing.
Free games sound good but downloading a new launcher seems a big ask for most gamers.

This is how I feel with all the other launchers as well, like I don't mind running my PC and Steam just always being open but when you start adding like 2-3 other launchers for different libraries of games I just cannot be bothered with juggling them all lol, Steam is just far too convenient.

That and Steam doesn't care they could easily remove creamapi and others like it but dont this is just a thing publisher's made them say to cover there own ass's

I'd never considered that 'til you just said it. Actually kinda wild to think about, I wonder just how much Fortnite actually is propping up their entire platform since it must generate silly amounts of revenue.
