It's more of a "sort of". The coffee bean comes from the coffee cherry. Like chicken or beef broth, where the bones are often roasted before making the broth, the cherry pit (bean) is roasted as well. The main differences are the steeping time and the grinding of the bean - you don't grind the bones. And, before you go all "animal versus plant", one does make vegetable broth out of the the bits of the vegetables that are cast off, and often given a little bit of a roasting as well. ;)

Finally, there is a "tea" called "cascara" that is made from the dried husks of the coffee cherry (more "cherry broth"), not to be confused with cascara sagrada, which is a tree bark used to make a powerful laxative "tea". :)
