On the other hand (at least for me) is incest mainly interesting BECAUSE it is taboo, if that makes sense. I´m not shy to admit, that I had a MAJOR crush on my older sister, when I was younger, mainly because she had big boobs ;-), but today I think, it was mainly because I knew I SHOULDN´T have that crush, that it was this intense. I had a few girls in my neighbourhood with big boobs, that could have had the same effect on me, but it wasn´t and I holeheartedly believe that it was only because it was taboo to like my sister in that way was what it made it interesting and noticable.

It isn't the difference, but the similarities. Genetically speaking, the closer the relation the more likely the genetic lottery swings against you. Full siblings, if I remember my anthro genetics classes, is about a ~2% increase overall. So, if you have a family history of a heritable disease/disorder you increase the likelihood of your offspring inheriting it. By second cousins the increase is negligible (3 divisions of family separation), but still there.

In psychology, similarities attract more than any other quality. So, in theory your best mate would be your third cousin.

I work in psych. I'd say at least 30% of siblings within 5yr age difference, had some kind of sexual encounter with each other. Either known or unknowingly. A lot of guilt out there. Again, natural vs normal is the key thing to remember here.

That´s what I learned in school (to become a kindergarten teacher - spoiler: I didn´t finish it) too, actually.
There we learned that ~30% of children who "play doctor" (for a lack of better words) do it with a sibling/cousin.
