  • Donation Rewards & Vault Credit System Update
A new important update has been posted covering the Donation Rewards bug, the reset of incorrect Donation and Platinum credits, the upcoming reclaim system for previous tracked donations, and the new Vault freeze/maintenance behavior. The goal is to remove bug-generated credits, protect real donation history, and rebuild the system in a cleaner and safer way going forward. - Jack Of Blades

Probably a big part of it, yeah. I'd like that too but I suspect actually doing the renders for that would be beyond the skill/patience level for a lot of devs; a room full of clean and neat surfaces is going to be much easier to generate (especially repeatedly) than one covered in poor man's clutter.
Ya, completely valid
In an engine like HS or a modded game it would work ok cause then you aren't having to wait the hours for it to re-render all the time since the 3d environment handles it, but then the character models or animations tend to suffer.
I considered doing this for a story, and feel I do have a decent one but it would not be a modern setting and I kind of prefer those; and thus expect others would too.
Also I wouldn't be monetizing it, so it would have to be a passion project.

Still tempting sometimes...

It use to bother me more than it did, but most writers have just as much trouble with writing "relatable and realistic" as they do edgy/badass. Just kinda evens out.
There is also a pretty limited amount of ways you can write more relatable grounded stories. Even if they're written well, a new trend of games based around a 9-5 day job would all blur together fast.

Not necessarily, if the devs put effort into making them distinct.

E.G. Banking on Bella, The Headmaster, and Defending Lydia Collier all center around the protagonists' day jobs. But they don't blur together because the creators use that job as the focus point for telling a unique story. There's plenty of occupations you could do something similar for.

I mean, granted, if it did become a trend most of the resulting games probably wouldn't be like that, and we'd see a lot of "today I start my new job at GeneriCorp with 12 supermodel coworkers who never say anything specific about what our company does". But that's the fault of unimaginative devs, not a lack of engaging premises.

Is it just me or do most of the stories feel like they are trying to hard to create this persona of a bad ass person? Like many stories feel a little far fetched.
The ones I like the most are of the little guy. Not a horse dick, and not a bad ass. Someone, if they're young, who is just a normal guy. Maybe they'll get some super ability, but it doesn't turn them into a super hero. Or an older guy who was always just sort of lame until he got lucky and found some special item or power. Or just some normal dude in every way who decides he wants to turn into a massive perv.

The bad ass super soldier has never been my thing. I prefer to play something that isn't like me IRL. ;)

sometimes it's nice to be the big bad ass but usually i prefer something more realistic
