I have family members in law enforcement that call these "revenue vehicles" and think they should go away. Unlike real police vehicles, which are meant to be visible as a deterrent to poor driving choices, .

In my town they use marked cars as a deterrent to bad choices - just move them around to problematic streets and park them unmanned in places where one would expect a speed trap . Works like a charm.
