What do you guys think about "parody" games?

Parody games can be fun when done creatively, but they often rely heavily on humor or references that might not resonate with everyone. When done well, they can be a refreshing take, but they can also feel lazy if the focus is only on the parody.

Its probably more easy for devs to build on existing story and characters to build around, which probably makes it harder to fail with the game. Sure there is a lot of crappy parody games out there, but many of my favorite games are parody ones.

I think it's cool, especially about works that already have a tendency to have a relationship, and a parody addresses these relationships.

It depends on the quality of the game and the source itself for me.

Some are ok, most are cringe or poorly written and don't stay close enough to the original material to be worth ignoring the obvious issues that tend to plague parody games.

Parody games have the advantage that they can instantly make use of a significant amount of background information, and players can be expected to already be invested in the characters. This can be a small bonus for an otherwise good game. Unfortunately, many parody games are not otherwise good. Then the parody aspect can't save them, but raises players' expectations.

Paprika Trainer is an example of a relatively good parody game. This game actually made me watch Totally Spies!, which I had never heard of before. (Thanks, Akabur!) It's an actual, playable game, and it's an actual, funny parody.

A lot of adult games and AVNs are clearly based on Harry Potter and always have a character who looks like Emma Watson. These are generally not parodies in the original sense of mocking or at least commenting on an original work. Using the Harry Potter universe is just a lazy way of getting a setting that works and an efficient way to get an audience, But there are works worth playing in this area, such as Lust Academy. It's a reasonable quality AVN adaptation of Harry Potter, with just enough changes to make it legal.

The can like all games be good or bad. The only real chance of success is choosing a really popular IP to parody.
Cartoons will likely take their artstyle from the original, that could ruin the H scenes and the general aesthetic.
I really liked Four Elements Trainer. Every dragon ball parody I've tried has been absolutely terrible.

Cartoons have a better record, but obviously still have to be done well to be good. I think the best ones I've seen are the Rick and Morty ones, I think the art style is simple enough it is done ok, and it had such a big following when it was most popular the devs could make the characters seem believable - mostly.

Because it's fun but if you do the story as it is but augment it with just nudity or sex, it's boring.

They are ok if they catch my attention...I really like Four Elements Trainer as my favorite

They could be great, but they must be original or unique to be good. I feel like people mostly make parody games because its easier, if your putting in the effort to make a good game most will then just make their own story.
I feel the same way about fanfiction, most of it is just slop and wish fulfillment.

i really like parody games when the arty is similar or very close to the source material, the story and other stuff doesn't matter too much, because it's just a parody

I don't think I played a parody game or at least one focused on it, but I don't mind when they integrate some humor into the game. I would say that it's even better this way. Ofc the jokes have to be well written and not cringe
