I have always been interested in different types of fetishes, but incest has always been particularly strange/interesting to me. Not in a bad way, but I wonder if you know or have any theories as to what could be the origin or reasons why incest is so popular or attention-grabbing (considering that in porn it is one of the largest categories). Perhaps it can be explained with psychoanalysis or with some evolutionary aspect.

What is banned or unacceptable in a culture makes it more attractive to people who are willing to deviate. Places that ban gay sex have huge secret gay sex desires. Places that ban a woman showing her shoulders get a lot of shoulder kinks. Places that ban bdsm get a lot of bdsm kinks.

Incest is also associated with intimacy and youth and purity so people who have youth or purity kinks are more likely to become into incest and people who don't have a sibling or child or whatever of the incest type can project easy intimacy onto it. People do the same about shut-ins having a helper or parents getting with a maid or an in-law. Or widows and widowers getting together. It taps into sexual forbidden things and emotional things.

Also people are attracted to similarity between themselves and others and say that people who are similar to each other belong together so when they don't know two people are related they think they fit together well, and in fiction there is no real relation so people like it if they get past bad feelings about real incest.

That's not really accurate and kind of ignores the 1000s of years of isolated societies that are already present in your genes.

You are considerably more likely to have shared genes with a sibling. Rececive genes that might cause a problem that both you and a sibling got passed on to you are more likely to get doubled up. But you may also get lucky and completely breed out the negative gene and only have the possibility of the positive.

Isolated and closed societies have these issues too. The UAE for example now requires couple to get genetic screenings before marriage because they had one of the highest rates of genetic disorders in the world. This came from little outside genes being introduced along with a caste system that kept the local gene pools separated.

Is it 100s of years? I'm pretty sure it's only the first gen, maybe second too. I know that gen 1 incest has the same risk as any normal pregnancy. But I think after that it starts to get worse. The most infamous example of incest in European nobles you can see problems start early on after like two gens of it. More kids dying before birth or only a few years old, weaker immune system, all of it.

So I'm curious to see what study says 100s of years.

I would want to see that study too, cuz it doesn't math. Remember too that most negative genetic issues (really most genetic anything) isn't controlled by a single set of genes. So the limited options of genetics just mean more liklihood of the multiple markers having these negative genes

when i was a kid, half the kids on the street claimed to lose their virginity to first cousin. thats all i know about actual incest. it wasnt weird then isnt weird now. the difference is that being 12-13 we didnt consider cousins incest, only immediate family. we didnt really talk about incest or learn about it either. internet didnt exist yet, tv was network broadcast or huge bulky satellite dishes where i lived. dvds werent invented yet, and there was only 1 tv in the house if there was a tv at all, most of us were poor, i used to watch my saturday cartoons on a black and white tv with bunny ear antenna. we got used color tv with wood box trim on a swivel mount, that was awesome. anyway, times were different and most the rules we came up with as kids on the street were either reflections of the adults who worked all day then ate dinner and went to bed so we really only saw for meals and on sundays where they pushed us out of the house to play outside. the other rules we made up on what we liked or didnt like. we found some porn mags and some had incest stories, they were all aunt uncle and cousin stories too, no immediate family stories. so those mags didnt seem weird at the time. i dont remember anyone actually wanting to screw their mom or sister, just perving on each others family members and beating the shit out of each other for it. wasnt til some years later that any of us really understood what taboos were. I will tell you, when a guy a block over was caught screwing his dog, we all thought it was sick and made fun of him for years. i always felt bad for the poor dog.

basically i think taboos are taught, and for individuals, you like what you like and dislike what you dislike. as long as no one is hurt and its all consensual, taboos are just morals we let other people set upon us.

BUT, people shouldnt be making mutant babies with their family animals aliens or demons. its wrong to make a child suffer after all.
