I did it for both home use and to raise money to go skiing with my HS group. Adults would direct us, but we had places where we could fell trees, or where the trees were already down, then we'd cut to length with chainsaws and usually use a maul to split, wedging the bigger rounds from the trunk. I found it therapeutic. We'd deliver by the cord or half cord. Made decent money doing it.
Yeah we did it for home use + money too. Lucky for us we had all the gear before we got into it because grandfather was a small engines mechanic. We would go out drop the tree's chainsaw them down into rings to fit on the back of the truck and bring them back to use the logsplitter on. Well 1 person would have the log splitter, rest of us would be on the blockbuster or stacking it. I don't do it anymore because of loved ones that have passed, need the man power to make it happen.... but it brings back a lot of memory's from my teenage years. I feel very nostalgic towards it.

How are you doing today?
We used a splitter one year. Someone had gotten about two foot thick rounds from a very old tree that ranged from about 40 inches to 60 inches across - we tried one of the smaller ones with mauls and wedges, but that took a minute.
I actually managed to never get it until now. Luckily, as the strains have become less severe. Good chance I wouldn't have survived the 2020-2021 strains (especially before the vaccine was available.)
I feel that, I got my first near the end of last year and it was harsh. But I was thinking the same thing, the early strains would have been worse. Still not fun.
