I honestly think that deep in the bowels of these corporations they have a room with staff that as their only job is they plan "planned obsolescence" Like the car companies do, trying to force you to believe that you need the newer shinier bestest thing - even though you don't. I still get email from Newegg and I have not bought anything from them in 7 years.
Yep - there WAS that light bulb at a fire station they kept continuously on for 100 years +. Not sure if it still works, but turning it off was a big no-no (that's usually when they blow out - turning on or off)
