At least that method has some context unlike some games that include some sort of collectable that shows you a character nude without any sort of context.

tropes are tropes for a reason. It's not easy to think up something new, if thousands of people did the same thing before you. Literally every story arc has already been written somewhere by somebody, so it's easier to just do the tried and proven thing. And if the dev indeed has a good, novel idea, then that's just a small part of the story and he/she still has to fill in the rest with something.
