You can say hello. Try to make it somewhat interesting. If, however, all you say is "hello" and/or "bye" when you're engaging. I'll notice and start deleting. I don't care if you used gifs and made it interesting. You need to do something more than just greetings.

Nope. Plenty of people say "hi" without it being low effort. Engaging in the conversation is a requirement to get away with lame greetings though. We're lenient on those, so as long as it's not all you do...

perfect example of that is Jonas Salk

He spent 7 years developing the polio vaccine and then gave it to the world for free. Salk was hailed as a "miracle worker" when the vaccine's success was first made public in April 1955, and chose to not patent the vaccine or seek any profit from it in order to maximize its global distribution. It would be interesting to see if ANY American medical research firm would do that today
