Don't get me started on Wheel of Time. I'm not saying it has to be page for page from the source, but try to avoid making up new plot elements, because the new shit is shit 90%+ of the time.
So many stories these days, the main conflict is just due to lack of communication. If the characters just talked, the show would be 10 minutes.

Adapting WoT page for page would be impossible, but they really went all in in order to dumb down the lore, charachter personalities and making questionable decisions.
And your remark about communication (or lack thereof) reminds me think that at Amazon studios they should be very fond of the trope, since they abused it in Rings of Power...

I actually read the whole series recently for the first time because a friend was complaining about the show.

A lot of the lore ended up not mattering at all, there were so many things left unexplored because the author never got to finish the books himself. I haven't seen the show, but there was no way that they could have made a good adaption. The series was a very poor choice for a TV show.

I never saw a single commercial or advertisement for that game, i hadn't even heard of it until it had already been canceled. I've never seen gameplay or anything other than headlines but i've got to imagine with some better marketing they would at least not be in this sorry of a state

Instead they ignored the male/female aspect of the magic system, never really explained the taint, in the first season they implied that the Dragon could have been reborn as woman, but never explained why the world should have been scared of a female channeler, and the list goes on.
I also believe that that a good adaptation could have been made. Just ignore some of the "side quests" that take way too much space in the books.
Unfortunately they decided to add unnecessary sub plots, decided to dumb down most of the charachters plus the usual shortcuts that plague modern entertainment such as teleportation (no, since you read the books, I'm not talking about Traveling), incongruent charachter behaviour and so on.

So pretty much everything that was important, incredible but I'm not surprised in the least. Funny about the teleportation thing considering characters moving from point A to point B and taking so long to do it was such a huge aspect of the books.
