out of curiosity is it the spoken version/accent of portugal's that's hard to understand or the written version thats so different?

No, english is kinda easy to learn. It's a lot more regular than my own native language, french, for example. Also english doesn't have those annoying "everything has a gender" rules like in many roman languages.

The only book I truly tried to read in english I think it was the Resident Evil novel by S. D. Perry and that went fine. But I've also seen texts where the language is kinda "shakesperean" and didn't understand shit of it. Hahaha
Seeing how these books are about vampires, which are old and all, I wouldn't be surprised if the characters spoke in a hard to comprehend manner....

I didn't Google about Anne Rice to research her work properly and how she write, but so far I am aware, she is older woman now and I think writes in pretty much the standard english words, but there are just too many that I can't understand and this my problem. Even write here, in the usual standard every day USA/EU style it is too hard, even I learned English for some years, so, I imagine her English words are for sure elegant and so much better than I can ever do. I tried before but my writing skills are not so good, then I just write my books for fun. People like Anne Rice, it seems they study in University, or take many courses, so, yes, they have many fancy and decent ways to write and put words together. I can't even create such skills in Japanese, but I think her characters also talk in every day language. It is the desctriptive writing and word forms that makes it so hard to understand, and even harder to translate properly. Most English to Japanese books are lost in the meaning and can become often just not good enough.

Lots of common Portugal words have a dirty "nuance" here, I can't help bit think we do it on purpose just to make fun of them...

Here in Brazil we don't have Olive Garden. Heard a lot in pop culture, so I'd like to know it. Their breadsticks seemed really famous. Hahaha

I went to the Olive Garden a couple of times last year whilst on holiday in Florida. We thought it was great and the breadsticks were very good. I suppose we were lucky that the meals were good. Either that, or us English are not quite as fussy.. We do not have many chain restaurants here. We also liked Bahama Breeze in Florida.
In fact, we love everything about Florida apart from the storms there. That last one was a bastard!

For me, Portugal portuguese must as well be another form of spanish. I don't understand anything when hearing it.
I don't if it's true or not, but I've seen people saying that portuguese children are starting to speak brazilian portuguese, because of the internet and brazilian entertainment in general. Hahaha
