Overview:
You are a highly anticipated up and coming volleyball star. Or rather, you were up until you destroyed your shoulder and your prospects along with it by overworking yourself. Now you're just a nobody who drowned your sorrows away with a series of poor life choices.

This story takes place after a wake up call following a year of wallowing in despair with a life that spiralled downhill under the shadow of the star volleyball prospect you once were. You have just received a vague invitation for a meeting from the Dean of Baskerville State University, a highly prestigious university, regarding a potential scholarship when no other universities would give the current you a second glance.

The condition of this scholarship however would turn out to be facing your demons as you return to the sport you turned your back on in a new role, becoming the coach of the school's women's volleyball team.

But little did you know that facing your demons would be the easiest part of this task as the team is riddled with fatal problems, each threatening to end your scholarship left, right, and centre! Yet by earnestly facing these girls and their issues with your eyes wide open, you might just end up growing in a way you never thought you would. Are you ready to coach the BSU Wild Cats and lead them to victory?

Hello everyone. I am LopaPhi. Introducing the current project I'm working on right now. "WILD CATS".
And in case you're wondering, no it's not a furry game lol.

I never realized developing something like this would be this hard. Definitely one of the harder things I've done in life. Every minute of it was a challenge, but enjoyable at the same time.

This is the first game I've ever done, but if you can find the time and give it a chance, that'd be amazing and you will have my eternal gratitude.

Good start. It's one of the few games where I actually started reading the story, even though I don't speak English. I liked the girls' design. We'll see how it goes...

Ok first thanks to the dev - you can tell that a lot of love was put into this game and your efforts are what keeps this community going so thank you for working so hard and sharing the fruits of your labor with us.

Having said that, this is a good v0.1, but I do have some minor notes. I don't mean any of this to be anything but constructive so hopefully these comments aren't unnecessarily critical.

Starting with the premise - you play as a MC who is ~early 20s but instead of getting a salaried job at the college, you get a scholarship, a dorm room, and a monthly stipend in exchange for coaching the ladies volleyball team? I'm not saying that this couldn't happen, but the story doesn't really provide a reason for this weird arrangement other than the dean insisting he believes in you and this is the best deal that can be reached. Maybe it would intersect too severely with planned story content but I would advocate for a rewrite of the MC's role and just make them a salaried coach who is provided housing on campus. Not a huge deal if not, but it felt worthy of consideration at a minimum.

Next - the art style. The visuals aren't bad but most of the scenes seem 2 dimensional and the colors are washed out. This may have been the goal but it doesn't feel immersive so, again, not a big deal but worth mentioning.

The intro was off-putting for me. One of the first scenes is a character wearing a paper bag with a drawn-on smiley face over their head while wearing a tuxedo saying, "Please do not be alarmed. I am nobody suspicious..." Well shit man, I wasn't alarmed, but now there's a masked maestro telling me they're not suspicious and, ngl, it feels kind of sus.

Lastly, I realize it can be hard in a v0.1 to balance "choices matter" with giving a starting narrative, but one of the first few choices you have is "Give up? Yes/No" and if you select no, it's just a game over. Please realize that this is not a meaningful choice - its equivalent to the choice at the beginning of some games that's like, "hey are you willing to press this button saying you're an adult to continue the game?" but it presents in the middle of the narrative. Again, not a game-breaking problem, but it feels like this choice doesn't add to the story, it only detracts, and it may not be worth soliciting user input for choices like this.

Hopefully this is some good feedback that will be useful in the continued development of this story. Thanks again for your contribution, LopaPhi.

Now I'm torn, with your post and the only (glowing) review, both addressing some key factors that comes into play when deciding to play a game or not, giving slightly takes on said subjects...

I played this when it was released in July, seemed ok (not a fan of HS games but I'm trying to expand my horizons) but one thing that stuck out to me was a choice on how to react to one of the students. It was with Eve, after playing a round of volleyball in the very beginning. The MC is being a dick and she doesn't stand for it and snaps back at him and as part of it throws in an insult that hits the mark probably better than she intended, and the MC is given a choice: Let Anger Take Over, or Calm Down. At least the dev had the decency to make the first choice be a quick route to a Bad End. But (I guess for dramatic effect) choosing "calm down" still has you raise your hand as if to slap her, before realizing what you were about to do and stopping yourself.

My first issue with this is that a flash-of-anger response isn't gonna just pause halfway. Someone winding up for a swing and then stopping and apologizing isn't feeling remorseful, they are being manipulative. That is clearly not what the MC is doing so I think a better response would be for the MC to like, make obvious "anger management" steps to calm down. Close his eyes, steady breathing, count to 10. Stuff like that. Eve witnessing his successful attempt to regain composure will have just as much effect as not slapping her, without the manipulative and misogynistic overtones. Because seriously, you can't raise your hand to anyone (woman or not) in polite society and not get raked over the coals, deservedly so. Just that threat is enough for him to lose his job on the spot.

Second issue is how Eve reacts to the threatened slap. But I'm not really suggesting to change her reaction, if MC's actions change to not include threats of violence then her part is fine. As it is now she brushes it aside like being threatened with violence by her new coach (person of authority) that she just met happens alllll the time, nooooo biggie. Sure, he's safe to have around young students while he's prone to violent outbursts, no need to tell the Dean or whoever.
