Starfinder would be the sci-fi focused equivalent. If you're familiar with 5e, going to 2e Pathfinder (and I think starfinder is having 2e come out sometime too) isn't too big a jump. 1e Pathfinder has a bit stronger of a learning curve, and there's a lot more crunch to it (there's hundreds of feats, a few dozen classes, and each class has several archetypes), but the amount of customization you can have for a character is immense.

I always loved helping my friends move it sucks to see them go but its a fun way to spend a last bit of quality time together. Get paid in beer and pizza. And I think every single time I end up taking some items home that they decide they don't want/need so that a win/win/win/lose cause they do move away at the end but overall net positive.
