Where they arnt really fantasy, more just medieval with some ogre or something
That's what "fantasy" in computer games (and RPGs) means...
And that means Role Playing Games, not the things bad guys launch at you in the mideast...

No, but more scifi would also be nice.
Its the realism bullshit thats overused, you just need to go outside for realism, games should be different.

I like modern stuff.
there are some good possibilities (but I recognize that some things are too simplistic and déjà vu - Finally, as everywhere else)

I don't care about the setting. Fantasy is fine and not overused. The story is king and the setting should accent this not be a distraction.

If I were a developer, it would depend on assets available at a reasonable price to match my story. Fantasy has lots and story setting are often just the woods so easy to construct and set the stage.

Let's define the terms. If we talk about the classic Sword & Sorcery subgenre, the main problem is that none of the developers have talent comparable to Tolkien, Le Guin, Sprague da Camp, Tanith Lee or Fritz Leiber. All I've seen in S&S among AVNs is very average fanfiction.
Suprheros and superpowers... I don't understand why this phenomenon is popular at all. I grew up in a completely different culture to which this phenomenon is completely alien and incomprehensible. I don't care about supermen, jokers, batmen and the rest of the company. So I ignore mainstream movies on the subject as well, not to mention AVN.
Urban fantasy. Now this is a hot one. In fact, all AVNs without exception correspond to this subgenre, because the stories told by the developers have very little to do with our harsh reality, being exactly urban fantasy.
We can also add a couple of words about Scince Fiction. The problem is the same as with S&S - the developers are not Stanislav Lem or Gene Wolfe or even Asimov. It's the same fanfics that leave a very pathetic impression.

Actually a game made as Urban Fiction (writers like David Goines, Iceberg Slim and ones after them) might be good - as long as it wasn't like most Donald Goines where all the main characters die at the end.

Preview images of Daz - rendered women with horns, wings, tails, fangs, stupid armour or freaky coloration etc. tell me all I need to know about giving a game a hard pass.
IMO all these fantasy tropes are way too ubiquitous and look cringe.

I don't think so. Seems like there are more modern settings than anything else.

I hate it. Magic and ugly creatures as LI - and those fucking elf ears. Hate those - they're very off putting and not attractive at all.

And they wonder why human societies fail...1/3 useless brains without creativity, fantasy, visions or any other form of an open mind, not even in the most primal sexual context...i hate these stubborn boring zombies you can only use as working class.

I don't know if the lack of interest in the fanfics here is a sign of a lack of open mind. I love good fantasy. There are volumes by Tolkien, Ursula Le Guin, C. J. Cherryh, Tanith Lee, or even Fritz Leiber and Leon Sprague de Kemp, which came straight out of the pulp maagazines of the 1940s. Michael Moorcock went even further - he stepped (and successfully) from fantasy to the big literature. True, Howard and his Conan will remain a graphomaniac to me.
Here in the realm of AVN there is nothing even remotely approaching the level of normal literature. Again, this is a level below average fanfiction. Does everyone have to love this graphomania? No thanks, I'll do without that dubious pleasure. It may be argued to me that this is ultimately pornography. But in great literature, and in cinema as well, this very pornography has firmly secured its place under the sun. As an example:
I don't need pictures, I need a good plot and deeply written characters, everything else is secondary. As Tolkien said, anyone can write that there was a green sun shining in the sky. it's not hard. It's harder to create a world where a green sun makes sense.
The line about the working class should be understood as follows - there are plebs and there are high-spirited aristocracy? Who are these aristocrats of the spirit? Office clerks? The bourgeoisie? The oligarchy? Just wondering. It is just worth remembering that everything, absolutely everything around you was created by the hands of these plebeians, blue-collar workers. I also deal with working class people every day (I'm an engineer building subway lines). Believe me, operating a tunneling shield (which is what the workers do) is a non-trivial task, it's not like driving a car with an automatic transmission. And since I work side by side with these people, you can safely put me in the working class. I'd be honored.

Wow, you looked a little too deep into it.
Obviously its rare to stumble over games with a tolkien deep story/world. Just by adding art you mess up the fantasy aspect, thats also the main reason why even the best movies based on books get bad criticisms from the fans of the books.
There are also lots of useless games without a proper story of every genre, but especially when magic is involved (mind control). However, every idiot can write about reality and except for rare kinks sex is always the same. There is nothing new, nothing surprising, nothing special and nothing creative about it.
Thats what i meant with working class. Everyone can dully follow orders, directions and do the same monotonous shit over and over. The creatives are the ones who are able to change the world, create fictional worlds and invest new stuff and ideas.
People who only care about the reality we have will never be part of those who improve it, be it inventions or a good story to use or enable brains, you need creativity for it, not stubborn realism.

I'd argue it is underutilized. The games that do use a fantasy setting either ground it too heavily in reality logic, or just use it as a set-piece but don't use any of the cool opportunities that you can get from such a world.

I would say no, fantasy can be in all shapes and forms.

Yes, but it not a problem.

How do you explains girls with 3 tits, futas, 2000 years old lolis, ... In a world bound by science and by our general understanding of the world.

Make it fantasy. You won't have to explain anything because it will be part of that world
