I had a service call for an old lady once, she called maybe 4-5 hours before I went over, I could hear her dog barking but no one answered the door.
I called and left a message from her front door, and left a few minutes later. I called a couple more times over the course of the next few days, to no answer.
One week later, her son called me to let me know she had died, and still needed the work done.
I went over the days after he called me and there were clean-up people there. They had to wait for me to shut the water off temporarily.
When I finally went in the house, the whole carpet was torn out and they were scrubbed the plywood subfloor with some harsh chemicals.
When I asked, they wouldn't tell me what happened at first (until the knew I was a plumber, they knew I had seen some
shit).
She died of a stroke and her dog, a Pomeranian, had torn her up a few days before her son found the scene.
The dog ran out of food and there was nothing else to eat except the old lady. Neighbors called the son because of the dog's non-stop barking.
