Hey,
what type of games do you prefer?
I can't really make up my mind about that topic.
Sometimes I like when you don't have to do anything at all to get to the lewd scenes in games and other times I like when you have to work for your pleasure. It feels more satisfying then for me.
Two of my favorite games are OSiL and Bernd and the mystery from Unteraltenbach.
OSiL is really straight forward and a pleasure to play but for Bernd to get the girls he likes you have to work hard and fight through numerous Game Over screens if you messed it up.
But if you finally hook up with the girl, the excitement is even bigger for me.
So, a quick fap or pleasent anticipation? What do you think?

The “straight to point” option is something I'm not comfortable with. I need gameplay. Some developers turn their projects that started as games into kinetic novels - I delete such “masterpieces” without regret. As for grind, it doesn't scare me, I'm happy to play Bright Past or Straitened Times.
Although there are exceptions, and the impression is that grind is present in these games only for the sake of grind itself. Examples are FOTM, Jen's Dilemma, Sun City, Happy Summer.

FOTM drove me fucking insane. Bu I agree that there has to be some buildup. Summertime saga does it well i think

Very few devs are good at finding the right balance between story and scenes and grind. There are some games that are just long stories with a few added scenes, which makes no sense because it seems like that making it adult will just limit the audience, and then there are the games that have scenes every few clicks with little story or buildup in between.

Then there is the grind, which is where over half the devs just stretch out the game for no reason, making click after click meaningless just to try to find that trigger for another scene, and I avoid grind games because any good dev could take a grind game and make it any other type of game without sacrificing anything. Need to wait until a specific time? Add some story! Need a repeated event? More story! etc.

I do like some slow buildup to events, but unless the grind/sandbox effort is well thought out, which few are, it is just annoying for everyone.

Yes, I agree. If the grind is useless and just to makes the game longer I don`t see the point why I have to do this

Yes, the right balance is key imo.
I think the The Guardian did a good job on that front

I like a nice balance. If it just goes straight into the Lewd-ness hard and keeps going like that then it's kinda too much of a good thing.
So, I like some intro to set the scene and MC, then a little hint of potential Lewd, then on to building characters and story a little and then some Lewd, then story again, Lewdness, etc. etc.

I love games with a grind, as long as there are cheats to skip it.

Even with cheats there is that lingering feeling of missing scenes because the actual triggers to get the all the scenes are mostly hidden. Games like Desert Stalker are very good at having both a gallery mod and a hint system that coaches the player to not miss anything, which really is helpful.

It depends on the game and why I'm playing it. Some games I appreciate they go strait to the point, others I like a balance between story and action, but there are a good amount of them that fucking looks their are trying to compete with Cyrus the Great. In these cases, if the story is good enough, then don't do a porn game, just a regular game. Or even better, write a novel, they may become the next bestseller, who knows!

neither? there's a sweetspot in the middle where you're not just watching a mindless stream of porn and you're not working a 9-5

I like it when the game gives some kind of challenge, I prefer it when the dev tries to balance the story so that it is not boring but also so that there is no such thing that 5 min of game play and we move to the action. That's why I prefer a bit more of a medium-slow burn than going straight to the action.

I don't think "grind" is the right word for it. I don't want to feel like I'm running dailies in an MMO when i boot up a VN.

But I do prefer games where it feels like the relationships and the sex scenes are something I achieved, not things that just happened while I was watching. That can be as simple as a game with choices where you may or may not wind up with a girl based on your actions (e.g. Once In A Lifetime or Eternum), or something more like a sandbox where you have to accomplish things in the game world to progress the story and relationships (e.g. Masters of Raana).

As a matter of fact I think that's one of the big appeals of a sandbox game- the sense of agency. Shame so many devs screw it up by making the progression requirements obtuse and onerous.

I like to work a bit for the payoff - but i would like some kind of payoff (yes i'm looking at you - Wife and Mother)

If it makes sense in the story I prefer there to be actions you should do (repeatably or just collecting). It is only if this takes too long, like that the game feels put on hold while you increase a number to an arbitrary level, that you can call it a "grind".

The type of grind matters like in Strive for Power the grind is a game its not all the same, so I'm ok with it, but if its just look at the pointless scene 5 time in a row to move on to the next one, that gets old fast. If the scene is hot, that helps but it can still kill the game a bit.🧑‍🦽🧑‍🦽🧑‍🦽🧑‍🦽🧑‍🦽

I prefer the middle way. Grinding is ok, when it fits to the gameplay. But excessive repeating grind will kill the game.

If I wanted something straight to the point, I would watch real porn. If I wanted something to grind, I would play an actual grindy game. Not really a fan of those "trainer" -esque games. I definitely prefer something in the middle where the sex scenes aren't just handed to you, but you don't have to do something like "bring this girl to orgasm 10 times to get to the next level". It's all about building a relationship with a LI and working your way up for me.

Most I usually bear is a couple of points before getting an another character event in a sandbox. I get why an unstuctured sandbox may be easier to narratively write, and it can be nice if character story lines are mostly independent and can be done as you want to, but some games go way over the top with requirements and get in the way
If there's any more grind than that I just bring out the console and cheat to get to the actual game. Also all minigames I've ever encountered in VNs were awful
