discussion Never really understood why devs make sandboxs, the concept is a failure yet they keep doing it.

As a mechanic it works perfect, hits the reward synopses in a addictive gambler type of way. Illusion of choice and depth too. I have not done one myself, but I imagine it works well with ordering events and easy to add new content on top.

There are some games it is ok in. Most devs though use to artificially increase game time through grind.

So there obviously has to be something in between sex scenes, otherwise it is just regular pornography of which there is plenty.

If it is just text and story, the "game" tag becomes kind of nebulous, it is really just a comic or series of pictures.
The question then becomes what can you add to a series of pictures to justify calling it a game

I don't think sandboxes are a bad model, but way too many devs fail to use them properly. Usually it becomes a grind-fest which I think a lot of players are dissuaded by.
That said, I don't think that making sandboxes is a good idea for most developers because they tend to build wide instead of deep content.

Probably because their idea is beyond their capacity. Weithers it their skill in programing or limitation of the program.

There are some gems in the sanbox genre but most developers fail , not saying they're bad at development but it just doesnt hit the spot yk

The sandbox not are a bad gender but if you need to grind like 2hours for 1 scene that give the game a super Shit cause lets be honest its a porn Game ussually you dont keep it playing cause the Gameplay and History its AAA game its just for the Scenes xD

I don't think sandbox games are bad per se, but that they are implemented poorly in adult games. You shouldn't make a sandbox game if all you want to do is make the player do the same action 10 times with the same scene every time. yes the game is longer, but you'll probably have less players overall

some people like the grind. i think as better avn's were developed with characters players/readers could empathize with and LI's that can spark arousal beyond having big tits and penetration scenes, a lot of people have moved past the desire for vn "games". i think sandbox exist for those people who dont want to admit they are playing choose your own adventure cartoon and cg porn, not atually gaming anymore. and i guess if they are grinding they are still gaming.

myself i loathe sandbox, mostly cause the part where i have to go to work in a game. in mmorpg at least when i was working i was killing shit and honing my ability to play my class or job, so when dungeons raids and the team shit came along i was someone apt. but sending the MC off to work and beig forced to play a glitched mini game to get to the next story event, bah shoot me now

They aren't my preference. But in moderation I can take it. As long as they aren't padded out with unnecessary grinding, which sadly most seem to be. But sometimes it is nice to freely explore around and find things. I will say if it doesn't have a good walkthrough mod, or built in walkthrough, I'm more likely to skip it. Sandbox tends to lead to missing stuff, which I don't like. So a WT is kinda mandatory for me and sandbox style
