In the US, half decent is hard to find. Most is the crap in plastic bags that's only good for making toast.

Ciabatta as a bread was invented in 1987 and it's my favorite bread for literally any occasion. Snacks, fancy plates, sammiches, oil transfer device. All hail Ciabatta

Scali bread.

Dark grain bread with various grains, kernels and seeds. They "stick" to the crust and the flavour is simply terrific. Much better than plain bread, which I find boring.

Soda bread. Not great for sandwiches, AMAZING for dipping into a good hearty stew or soup. Not too shabby on it's own with just a little maple butter either.
