honestly, as a huge movie buff I had the biggest list of "must-see" movies... award winners, classics, etc. but as i get older... meh. watch what interests you not what everyone says you should.

that said, here's 5 by genre:
Comedy- Airplane!
Action- The Raid: Redemption
Thriller- Memento
Romance- The Apartment
Superhero- Batman 1966
