lol i repeat myself a lot i think but i notice when i stumble upon good cohab games, the teasing/ grinding is nice, but the sex scenes are often boring gameplaywise

It's like lots of efforts are put in "seduce the girl and make lewd stuff", but once affection is maxed out and you can have sex, there is often this feeling that there are no real consequences whatever you do

I think a very good cohab game should have something to make you enjoy endless mode, not just the grind/ scenes collection - tropes involving gal type girls you shelter or your sister forbidden relationship are not a problem in itself, I would say it is more about all girls having the same personnality, and them being too "perfect" make them bland after a time

  • The girl has moods and sometimes she is pissed for no reasons (bc she is a girl lol), so aff. value is something to be managed daily and actively

  • There should be disputes and fights after some time, because couple life is not life long lovey dovey stuff

  • After a certain time boredom is likely to settle in, which demands creativity to handle

  • GOOD SEX GAMEPLAY MECHANICS ffs, where orgasms/ edging or not have consequences - that only would make people launch the game again after months and add playtime

  • Pregnancy risks are often present, so it keeps you motivated to manage stuff, OTHER RISKS should be taken into account (hard aff. value and/or lust downgrade, potential NTR, etc)

  • MC should have enticing/ rewarding side activities so spending time with the girl is not the only fun option, and so compromises/ sacrifices have to be made
  • Heavy RNG/ rare events should happen from time to time, i think imouto fantasy is a good example

I guess we'll come to a point where such deepness is reached, and then most games will have to reach this standard to be considered top tier. Until then, I'm afraid cohab games will be one shot titles you play once, and then rarely open again

Couldn't agree more. But at this point, I'll consume anything that has 'cohabitation' slapped onto it, sooo
Honestly, same. When I find something I enjoy, I can basically run it into the ground for years. Cohab usually has some sweetness to it, isn't filled with NTR, and has like a slow burn/build up that actually makes me invested in what is going on. When people talk about the quality or whatever of Monochrome, I think they are usually talking about the art and content. All of that is amazing, but I also really enjoy the super slow flirting build up. Too many other games don't get that part right, or you can sleep fuck them at say night 3 and they don't even care.

Spoiler: Stuff I think could make endless mode enjoyable
Bro, many of us play games just to escape reality. I don't want to have to deal with real-life shit in games too lmao

That, is a whole other debate (realism in games, is it really needed blablabla), but wouldn't you like to see such mechanics (or other things lol ofc) so the average cohab game playtime would be more than 2 - 3 hours? and / or replayable..

I agree, realism makes no fun in a fun game

There's realism. And realism.

If realism makes the game tedious, then it's unnecessary realism and it ruins the experience.

Speaking of playtime, the last game I played (Loving Dead Girl) took me 30 hours to finish.

I was surprised by how many events, gags, and interactions the game has despite appearing to be a small game. I really enjoyed the experience, but not if you’d included things like rotting flesh or other zombie-related elements. The game is fantasy, and that’s what makes it appealing; if you make it realistic, it becomes gross.

Now let’s imagine she isn’t a zombie. I’d have to deal with her period, mood swings, outbursts that come out of nowhere, complaints of all kinds, work to support her, and then at the end of the day, when I select the sex option, she’d say, “I don’t want to.” Hell no. I play an eroge so that, after a certain point in the story, I can have sex with the heroine. Imagine a game that’s supposed to be about having sex with the heroine but DOESN’T LET YOU. Yeah, no thanks, I’ll pass without even looking. I can’t imagine a game with those features being popular unless people are masochists.

I didn't really talk about realism, but deeper mechanics, and a cozyness you enjoy more in the end because you earned it and are good to maintain

Loved the game you mentionned, and it is unique in many aspects and kinda has a soul. It was not this game specifically I had in mind, more the last one i posted with the gal type girl

...And last but not least: ""

Well yes, I agree with that. In the game I mentioned, I actually felt that the romantic aspect of living together was missing. Yes, she’s a tsundere and all that, but even after marriage, she shows almost no signs of affection except when she’s in the throes of an orgasm.

That’s something I’ve noticed is missing from many cohabitation games. It’s as if romance and affection are secondary elements that aren’t given much attention, and sex is the main focus. I understand why, but I don’t think it always has to be that way.

oh and a point I actually forgot to add, but the girl SHOULD seek interractions with you when you do other stuff

I m not sure i have a single cohab game example where the action is not one sided (except very specific scripted events)

I was about to mention like 10, but then I realized that they are all scripted events. Also, that's clearly not realistic either lmao. I'm a bit on the older side, have dated several women, and I've been married for quite a while. I think like...literally 5 times ever in 20 years has a girl actively came to find me while I was doing something just to see me.

I think some of it wouldn't be terrible. Like for example, when games have like a "mood" system if they are happy or normal or whatever. It always feels weird that it's like this bar that can slowly go up or down, and it slowly decays. I think it would actually be a lot cooler if you could boost it a ton by doing a little surprise, or maybe they come home from a bad day at work and it's naturally low that day. That would make a game feel a lot more "alive" than just a variable that goes down by 10 points a day or whatever.

The realism I can't be having is refractory period though. I don't need a game to remind me that I have to wait half an hour after each time. Maybe the girl can be upset with me because I can't get it up immediately again. That would be really great.

When you wrote that, it kind of made me think of the game *Trapped Girl*; does that count as a cohab game?

Imouto fantasy actually has such mechanic that if you make her cum a lot you can make her very sick (even killed her once after 15 - 20 orgasms maybe lol, poor thing : .), and so the day after, it's nursing time

The idea I had in mind is more about being patient and good during sex, so you can perform even better and more easily next time, + the girl would come and ask for attention after a time

so with skills gained IG (+ knowledge of the game and skills of the player) , consumable, or even non realistic suprantural stuff, you can even try to bypass the cockblocking situations, like giving real rough sex while angry at you, so it adds little challenges and situations with risk/reward ratios

anyway, I realize it can be complex to write or conceive but could go pretty smoothly in game

@xXxLunaxXx lol no it's not a cohab game, and I really don't see what made you think about it in what he said? 🤔

even killed her once after 15 - 20 orgasms
YOU'RE FORCING ME TO PUT TOO MANY GAMES ON THE PRIORITY LIST BRO CALM DOWN, I CAN'T PLAY THEM ALL /s

Yes FFFox mod is really good work
also there are two translations on F95, the latest doesn't support FFFox mod BUT you can speed up sex scenes a bit with middle mouse button + a few little adds so my personnal advice is to take this one on your first playthrough
