You know that poll that pops up now and again on various games that asks whether you prefer small updates released frequently or large updates released after several months?
Well, this is why smaller but more frequent updates work better. A regular release cycle is a good habit to fall into. Not saying the other option is bad and can't be done - A Family Venture springs to mind - kudos to them for doing it successfully, just that it is more risky if the devs don't have a good work ethic.
