Curious what people think would you spend money on an adult/porn game? what matters most: story, art, gameplay, animations, customization, etc.?

All of the above factor into the decision. The biggest one for me is the story. As I'm sure plenty of others have said on other threads, if you're downloading a VN solely for the lewd content, Pornhub is much easier. Find those devs who can couple quality lewd content (ideally with smooth animations, but there are plenty of great games that just use still renders) with an interesting story. Those are the ones that have gotten me to back them or buy their games on Steam, itch, etc.

I dislike subscription services and things like Patreon. It's a fancy way of milking customers without them noticing. Games should be a one time purchase with full licence ownership, not some lending you the newest version for 5$ a month. Though people should also be allowed to do as they please, I just dont like the thought of paying 100-200$ in installments for a game worth 20-30$.
But other than that, art, characters, and story. Main three driving factors.

For me personally besides storytelling and smooth animations? I like knowing what kind of kinks/fetishes are or will be available in a game. I'm not a vanilla lily kinda person, so I'll be less likely to even look at games that aren't at least a little kink-friendly.

Of course, I should feel attracted to the main female character, and the story should appeal to me too, then there should be regular game updates like we see now in games like "Oh Daddy Part-2: Sara" by Nightaku and "Life Together" by Mr. Black Eyes.

What I find appealing in a game story:

- The main character is male
- The main female character is younger than him
- The story should focus on the main couple

What I find Attractive in the main female character:

- Brunette
- Virgin
- Owner of a bubble butt
- Has small to medium tits
- Affectionate personality
- Naughty, eager to start her sexual life

Attractive Kinks (hell, yeah!):

- Anal
- Creampie

Detracting Kinks (no-no):

- NTR
- BDSM
- Futa
- Graphic Violence
- Blackmail
- Rape
- MILF
- Harem

Good Game Mechanics:

- Animations
- Meaningful Options
- Stats or Points to Unlock Relationship Progress
- Options During Sexy/Sexual Scenes

Bad Game Mechanics:

- No Meaningful Options
- The Main Character Has to Advance His Relationship With One Character In Order To Progress His Relationship With Another Character.

This is this games that i could just insta buy

For its very deep and one-of-a-kind H-System, and Ofc the H Stuff
Very good Art, Very Good Story, Its just soo good overall
Now..THIS one is Special it might be lacking in H-Department but its Story & Gameplay is 10 out of 10

To pay for a game, whether adult or not, it needs to be fun. I mean, if I'm not enjoying something why would I pay for it (or even keep playing).

I know that the question is looking for a more detailed explanation, but it really is as simple as ' do I enjoy this or not'.

Just a thought.

When the creative is not making twice of what I'm making and I meaningfully can chip in, hoist up or even make possible what I want seen through and not disappear, I support it.

I think the key, for me at least, is that a game needs a baseline of interactivity, and a consistent reward structure. I'm not big on games that play themselves, but good art and at least a decent illusion of choice, player resources, or point-and-click interaction can make a game attractive enough to continue and maybe support if the developer is active and clearly makes efforts to improve it.

Anonymity mostly. It being properly completed. That and its really hard to judge or get an idea for an adult game, far more than the leap of faith you make for mainstream movies or games. Its pretty difficult to make the plunge to purchase a particular game.

I'm just never going to sub via patreon or anything like that, no EA not subscriptions for shit that isn't finished. Too many devs abandon games, or 180 directions to make it worth paying for products that might never be completed.

I have no issues dropped 1 time dono's of like 15 bucks for a game that gets released and looks good just like I would for any other indie dev game, adult or non.

The amount of shitty slop that is created now, and devs just looking for a quick buck has ruined it for everyone else.

The same that would make me buy a normal game, good mechanics, good story, etc. only difference being the new requirements kinks... and being finished.

Especially the last, so many adult games that people support but after some time the developer abandon the game.

I tend to read a ton of japanese VN's and so I usually find it worth it when there is game bundles or sales and its very easy to pick something up for under 15$. They tend to be more story driven and have enough content to last me a couple days if I'm taking my time and enjoying it. Plus I love art so its a great way to see some unique art styles.

It needs to be finished or from a dev that has shown they finish their projects. The primary thing that prevents me from paying is knowing how likely it is that they will abandon the game or take years to make any real progress.

It needs to be on a platform other than steam, not censored in any way, a one time payment, the price needs to match the content similar to other indie games. It needs to be fully released or very close to releasing if early access.
