Oh dont worry I hate that myself. There is nothing more annoying than to be forced into some form of behaviour.

I get it it´s not easy to write plausible choices, but the player should definitly be at least able to choose between a few general options

I would suggest to look into making a text-based Renpy game rather than a book / pdf.

The "choose A go to page 45 or choose B go to page 74" might get confusing.
Programming can do the same thing for you but without the scrolling / page turning.

Did you play Good Girl Gone Bad (GGGB)? I think it's one of the very few true CYOA games where different choices have vastly different outcomes.

The problem with cyoa is that updates take forever and when it does release, the update is small and only move one path forward.

Yes. I love thouse. Just more focused - there are stories where we can choose from 20 charatcers to pursue but none of them are really fleashed out. Less is better.

Not a lawyer, nor is this legal advice, if you're going to share a project that works like CYOA, remember to not say "Choose Your Own Adventure" anywhere near it, that's a copyrighted phrase, and I remember the trademark owners enforcing it sometimes, just use another term to transmit the idea, maybe something like "Dare Your Own Course" or whatever comes to you.
