Sometimes someone counts googling or watching utub videos as "research" even though it shows based on algorithms based on what they already think. Actual research requires more resources than any individual is likely to have.

I don't think so. VR is still very much a niche thing, and although they are more popular than ever, it would take a long time for them to have a negative impact on other platforms. Personally i have no desire to have a VR Headset. I wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost.

Yes, I can't help but notice that the "don't trust people, do your own research" in this case included a "but don't use this particular source for your research, trust me" addendum.

If previous mass death events are anything to go by, it would also mean a major population boom once affected societies recovered and restabilized. If VR becomes a viable market that is accessible, then it will take off. That said, I don't think it'll cause a population collapse. The population collapse is happening because people can't afford to put food on their tables or pay their rent.

I am NOT saying there is a direct cause and effect relationship, BUT birthrates did really plummet the last decades.

Coincidentally (?) during the same period where porn and anti-conception have become mainstream, and (coincidentally) also the period where religion and the nuclear family have been thrown into the trash for being "old fashioned".

Whether there is actually a relationship, I don't know, but it seems likely to me.
And the birthrate is definitely become a political concern as well.

I think that's more the result of nearly all babies live to adulthood rather than dying of childhood diseases (plus most people aren't framers anymore, so they don't need farmhands.) In 3rd world countries, birthrates are still high. Given overpopulation, lower birthrates are a good thing. Another possibility - they have found sperm counts have been dropping, but no idea why.

I think you should expand the question from VR games in the state that they are now, to technology which may be available in the near-ish future.

If I had VR goggles, then I probably won't use them for porn at the moment, because there is no content and because just the visual aspect of sex is not enough.
When coupled with AI, you could have sex with your "real-time interactive fantasy" as @kama77 puts it, which is already much better.
If you were to connect with it a synchronised sex toy, then it would still be better. Etc.

I don't really like talking about it because it's a hard topic, but while one side of the coin is heavy digitization and porn getting better, the other side of the coin is women becoming smarter and having a stronger position in the community. It was easier for a man to lose virginity in times when a woman's only task was to get fucked and make children. Only very recently have we reached a point where women have voting rights, get educated, start having careers. It's no longer a world where getting fucked by a guy is the ONLY chance at a good life (it still is an option though)
And some guys don't have the will to actually try more and dedicate themselves to the chase.
Depression and mental problems have also got a lot of light in recent times and more people of both genders stopped seeing having children as the only point in life, some not seeing any at all.

At the end of the day I think that when declining population starts actually becoming a dangerous problem instead of just companies losing profit, but actually humanity being unable to sustain itself - a lot of people will start caring more and go back to the old ways.

So, sorry for the tangent, but I believe that what you're suggesting may cause problems, but if it actually becomes a real issue it will also be a trigger for returning to reality.
