because its an escapism there are better stories in fiction than in real life you can feel like you can do anything in video games

stres reducer and/or addiction

There's no point in doing something you don't like. Well, sometimes we need to do it to make money, but that's another story. But whatever we choose to do, it should give us pleasure, which applies not only to games but to anything. So yes, I play because I like it.

Because of all the things I have tried, playing videogames is one of the fun and entertaining hobbies I have found.
And the others I find at their level require planning or there is a possibility that someone calls the police (I did like to play football, not on a team but on public courts until a mother called the police because a 29 yo man cannot play in a public football court with teens, apparently).

Because I'm good at them, enjoy them and it's a good stress relief. I mostly play ESO but I occasionally play other Bethesda games.

because video games are the chill things you can do in this chaotic world
Playing video games has been a favored pass time since the invention of Pong (1972), and regardless of whether you know what Pong is or not, you're participating in this forum, and so you're probably a gamer to some degree. Have you ever asked yourself why you do it? The first answer that springs to mind probably is, "because I like it" or "because it's fun." True enough, but those are pretty vague answers. Psychologists have studied the phenomenon for decades, and other than offering a form of stress-relieving escapism, gaming also appears to fulfill certain psychological needs for many people like feelings of competence (accomplishment/being good at something), autonomy (control/power over something), and relatedness (belonging to a group of like-minded people). Some games are beneficial by helping to improve critical thinking, strategic planning, pattern recognition, and decision-making skills. Adult games have an added benefit, of course. All or none of that might apply to you, though. Why do you play these games?
I

I rarely have anything better to do so might as well.

They are a good way to experience things that are impossible or improbable in a safe and fun way. At least that is my vision of video games in general, but there are also those that are fun because they are difficult and impose new challenges that require developing new skills.
The feeling of overcoming an obstacle or achieving a goal after a long journey and a lot of effort is indescribably wonderful.

Honestly, video games are one of the best things that humanity has created, it sounds frivolous, but they are something on par with literature and cinematography, that is why many people often consider them as art and I agree with that.

I think I like the feeling of empowerment, of being the protagonist and being able to affect things in a very concrete way.

I also think it's one of my favourite ways to present a story, by being on the inside and interacting rather than being put on the outside of the narrative and observing like with a movie or book.
