Well, for small indie games, yeah. Although for games made by companies, it can be fun, though only if it's made with effort.

If it's a separate download, I sometimes skip it if I'm not that invested in the story. Otherwise, I don't mind.

Halloween and April Fools can be good since there's a lot of room for creativity. Christmas ones tend to be kind of samey though.

I don't really like the holiday specials.

They don't add anything to the main game, and it's a easy way to "add" content, while it actually isn't.

It mostly happens when development is getting slower, a easy copout for a dev to still bring content.

Holiday events are just an excuse to put characters in outfits they wouln't usually wear and most of the time that means we just get a nice little extra scene

Holiday specials are done for marketing purposes. Giving more visibility to the main game during the specific holidays.

I'll always liked holiday specials! They add some unique scenes and arts to the game. Sure it postpones the ongoing parts of the game but who wouldn't like some random weird stuff now and then ?

A question I often find myself asking. There are very few things more disappointing than seeing a thread for a game you love get updated, only to realize it's a spin-off holiday special that has no impact on the story. I understand that people like the holidays, and you want as a dev to give something special to your community to celebrate, but at least for me, I would always prefer to celebrate with a big new update that expands on the story meaningfully, than a short spinoff that took dev time away from the content I actually want.
