Im not very savvy with tech but my computer just died, I have no idea what happened my friend thinks it was the motherboard, but honestly has no idea at all. it just wont turn on at all. So where can I get a new gaming computer for cheapish? Im poor haha

That would really depend on which country you live in, but mostly some online marketplace where you can find a decent used one. If you don't understand about computers just send a couple of them in your price range to a friend who does and ask him which is the best

power supplies will cause this problem (it's always best to buy new stuff)

i know its more than a week later but look at this first
you can buy a cheap tester off amazon

If you are on a budget tou can buy it from a second-hand site or look for those reburnished models, they are actually computers made with older parts but each one are tested and they have a warranty.
If in the future you will not be on a budget and you are aiming for performance, buy the big parts (UC, monitor, keyboard etc) separately, maybe from different sites or online stores. If you are not tech savvy you can try buying a configuration offered by the store but never, ever buy your computer with built-in parts. As soon as one breaks there is not way to replace it and it will become trash fast. Also there is no way to upgrade it. So even if the price is cheaper, don't go for those with built-in parts like GPU, powersource etc, spend a buck and buy something you can upgrade. Hope I was helpful! Good luck!

That sucks — sorry to hear your rig died on you. If it won’t power on at all and there's no lights or fans, your friend might be right about the motherboard or possibly the power supply. Hard to say without testing parts, though.

If you’re looking for a decent gaming PC without spending a fortune, here are a few options worth checking out:

  1. Refurbished PCs – Sites like Newegg, Micro Center (if you’re in the US), or even Amazon have certified refurbished desktops that can run games well for a fraction of the cost.
  2. Used local deals – Check Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, or similar apps. Sometimes people upgrade and sell perfectly good rigs cheap. Just be careful and always test before buying, if possible.
  3. Prebuilt budget PCs – Brands like Skytech, CyberPowerPC, and HP Omen sometimes have solid entry-level builds under $800. Not top-tier, but enough to play most modern games on medium settings.
  4. Steam Deck or handheld PC – If you're really strapped but still want to game, a Steam Deck is a surprisingly powerful and affordable option for PC gaming on the go (and you can plug it into a monitor).

Don’t count yourself out just because of budget — there are always options, especially if you’re okay with something a little older or used. Want help picking a setup or figuring out if your old one is salvageable? Happy to help more.
