Most megacorpos are legit tryna do a cyberpunk and tryna control the media and shit, what's up with that?

Conspiracy: They're starting at games because that's where most of the newer generations start to form their opinions and social circles, they know that most of the older generations either don't care or are already brainwashed anyways so they tryna condition us younger ones into participating on their large scale cult recruitment (Pretty much). Istg they won't just stop on games, I think activision and EA was a part of something greater to begin with.

It's always the same story: censorship and control under the veil of "protecting the children." It's been going on for centuries.

The internet is just the biggest, newest target for it. Before the internet, it was literature, film, art, music, video games, comic books. Fascinatingly enough, pornography is protected in the United States under the 1st Amendment, it's "obscenity" that is not protected, whatever that means.

Porn is going to be there if kids want to find it, and every roadblock they put in the way will just make two more forks for them to follow.

Big Corporate doesn't give a flying toss what media you consume. If anything they'd rather sell it to you.

But the one thing they are afraid of is getting attacked and dismantled by a government backed by an angry populace. So when they smell the winds shifting, they try and shift ahead of them.

Right now a lot of people are increasingly concerned- to the point of pushing through legislation- about online media, social media, and the potential effects they're having on kids. And big corporations are acting on that concern, not because they really care whether kids are playing porn games on Steam or whatever, but because they really really don't want to get stuck with the blame for "your system allowed my Billy to see loli gangbang porn!" by either a mass social movement or a government investigation.

It all comes down to money and power. Which of course fees into each other too. The whole root of the game is to get as much of the two as possible by any means possible.

Why control the media? 'It's so much better to be a mega corp empire owner when you don't have a bitch in your ear saying your bad, and telling everyone you are too.' If folks don't think its bad, you can keep on building and expanding your empire easier.

I feel like we're just the right generation in time where there's a fork leading to a dystopia total control and censorship or actual utopia, I really can't imagine a world where I can't search up things on the internet while getting censored. it started with news corporations in the early 00s (rupert murdock was a figurehead of this) and has snowballed from there. even with new media companies (meta, google, etc) they've continued the trend of gaining power and attempting to monopolize the media sphere. it's all for money. payment processors don't like porn because embarrassed people make false scam reports to get refunds after paying for it, which takes money out of their pocket. there's also the cultural conservative push as well, that demonizes any sexuality that isn't for making babies with the lights turned off.

Does this surprise you? This is a characteristic feature of imperialist-era, postindusrial capitalism, and political scientists warned about this danger at the beginning of the last century.
And that's what cyberpunk classics wrote about 40 years ago. With the weakening of the power of state institutions, the power of megacorporations increases, the power of which is steadily increasing.
This is an objective process, regardless of whether someone likes it or not.
