discussion What are your thoughts on TVs in VNs using real movie/show footage and audio?

Probably an odd thought, but idk. Whenever the MC and love interest are watching a movie and it's like screenshots from an actual movie, it just feels off. Maybe it's the 3d rendering with the live action pictures that feel uncanny? Same with porn footage too being shown.

It's nothing serious, but just feels weird to me. Your thoughts?

Unless the game is already using real imagery, it really breaks my immersion. Not a fan.

It is an attention grabber for me. I think I saw Seinfeld in one. +1 star for that AVN.

I don't think it's a big deal, some of the thing's others have said make sense, but it's never really bothered me.

If the game is trying very hard to be serious about consistency then it is an annoying laziness. If the game is self-aware about inconsistency then it is funny or enjoyable as part of the theme.

I like it! Helps me get immersed in the story by grounding it in reality. Granted, that requires the story to be taking place on our Earth within our timeline, but I don't think I've ever seen a story taking place outside of either that did.

I'm not really a fan either.
I'd prefer images from other VNs (this is sometimes the case, especially when a designer already has several games under their belt).

I am neither for or against. If the VN is a parody one it could be funny. If the VN is anything else not really for it.

I don't think I have ever seen that. It doesn't seem to be very common. Probably because it's generally not a good idea. I could see it work very well if the TV was showing the first manned moon landing in 1969, but with almost nothing else.

What I have seen recently, in UC8, was much better: the MC went to a movie with someone, and the movie was - Eternum! That was perfect on so many levels!
