Working through Sunshine Love and forgot how much I like easter egg hunting (or in this case doughnut hunting) during VNs. Doesn't matter to me if its just bonus images, it just gives you something to do in between dialogue choices. Plus it gives a developer a reason to do character pinups or scenes instead of shoehorning it in to normal conversation scenes. What does everyone else think about this mechanic? I know Crimson High features this and 1 or 2 others but I'd like to hear about more out there.

Depending on the type of game type, but I actually dislike them in VNs.
I want to play a game/follow a story not to scan every screen to find some bonus that could be automatically unlocked in a gallery by reaching a certain point in the game.

I think they're fun, as long as I know about them, there's a gallery available, and also that the easter eggs are worth it. Sometimes they've been stuff like initial sketches and such which... eh.

I hate when there isn't a gallery to see scenes or unlocked things after they were unlocked. It's a waste of time.

There was that game where you were a catboy, with a catfamily - it had quite a few hidden wallpapers and collectables (some inside a fishing mini-game), quite fun

Easter eggs are a lot of fun. Like you said, it not only gives a player something extra to do, it also opens up many different avenues for secret content you can't naturally include.
I can also see people not being into them due to it being difficult/tedious to find them. It's a mixed bag really.
