Dunno why the old thread got deleted.
But there are 2 new games, that were infected.
I place a screenshot of F 95 in here.
So please be safe out there.
Maybe a mod can reopen the old Virus warning thread?

There are always people like that, what a shame.

Every time I download anything from this site or f95 I always do a full system scan immediately afterwards just in case. Downloading things from the internet is just naturally risky and always will be.

I downloaded The seven realms r3 but from a different site.
When I checked my computer, I found nothing.
It seems that you can sleep well, but you should always be on the lookout.

As far as I know it, the malware only activate itself when playing that game. before that it cannot be found by virus scanner.
But cannot explain it. You have to go to another site, to read about it in detail.

I wish they gave more info about the virus, I may have downloaded a couple of those but my scan didn't find anything.

Thank you for the information. I'll check it out

The sad thing is that if RenPy based games were infected before, in the case of Milfania the Walkthrogh mod was infected as well. I think that a fixed post with a list of potentially dangerous games should be on the forum in an open format for all users.

I totally agree, having a post that compiles the games that possibly represent a threat to users would be very useful, also extending it to "untrustworthy" pages to prevent viruses from spreading by sharing links or re-uploading infected files on different forums.

Although it would be a very hard job.

tbh, I wonder what level of security here is having. consider here is smaller in scale, I would presume the security check team is also smaller.

just use virtual machine. you can just delete it if something happens.

sure - but that seems like lots of extra effort for most people..
Either just get active protection software (that automatically scans new files you download), OR make it a habit to, after you downloaded a bunch of games, scan the files before extracting them, or certainly before running them.

best defense is to have a whitelist based firewall, if the game tries to connect to the internet just block it, since we usually dont depend on the games to tell us if there is an update it also would tell you if a random file tries to connect to the internet after playing a game. If you notice anything weird then go run AV scan or just upload suspicious file to virustotal(dot)com but beware that some antivirus get false positives.

TLDR: Get Firewall> Block Everything>Stuff tries to connect to internet>kill stuff
