  • Donation Rewards & Vault Credit System Update
A new important update has been posted covering the Donation Rewards bug, the reset of incorrect Donation and Platinum credits, the upcoming reclaim system for previous tracked donations, and the new Vault freeze/maintenance behavior. The goal is to remove bug-generated credits, protect real donation history, and rebuild the system in a cleaner and safer way going forward. - Jack Of Blades

As much as I like to bitch about shit, I try to at least hold back sometimes if I can't offer suggestions. The threads jumping to the top of LU because a mod edited the OP is annoying, although to be honest I have seen it bugs some others more than me.

But.. having just run into 2 more, I had an idea that might help. I know mistakes happen, especially if you have done the same thing 100 times and made it into a pattern/habit and now have to remember to change it. So what if you tossed in one new step that was required. If the mod/uploader wants the updated field to change, they have to also fill out a "reason" field. "What was updated?:". If that field is left empty, they cant submit, or have to clear out the "updated" (radio? checkbox? textbox? I don't know what you guys are using in the form) data to post, which would not update the updated field. If they did type something in there, it could be visible to admins (see why they felt that it was a valid reason to mark it as an update), and maybe even to normal users. The "Last updated by moderator xx/xx/xx" thing could say "for <reason>". This could give us a hint as to why.

Oh, the game hasnt been updated in 3 years, but the dev found a special version that is better? Ok, sounds valid.
"Adding new mirrors" - Nope. Not a valid reason. Lets all get our pitchforks and destroy them!

Actually... thinking about this now, the 2 I just saw didnt have the updated field changed. Just the OP update. But... I thought that had been removed. So maybe this was all a waste of typing.

With regards "last edited by a moderator", why does it conceal which mod made the change? Anonymous editing means zero accountability.

I wont exactly agree with that. Some shit on this forum can cause some serious fights, so I dont see an issue with it. They can all see who did it. So its not actually anonymous, just not public. When you are the public, you want everything to be clearly visible to you, but when you have to manage shit like this, sometimes discretion is needed. While I would like to see who did it, the fact that Jack or the other admins/mods can see it is enough that when we bitch about it, they know who to yell at.

Albeit at the risk of maintaining a "them and us" mentality, and police policing themselves.

I've found at times this place can't make up its mind what it is, or wants to be. Some days it's community driven, community funded, powered by community engagement and feedback.

Other days it's a dictatorship run by one man who quite literally tells any challenger to fuck off, executes bans for being controversial, policed by mods with absolute authority, including the power to delete - or edit - anyone's posts and threads, and, it now transpires, anonymity.

Given the somewhat chequered recent history of this site, surely accountability and transparency is never a bad thing. Especially if it means more of the community-focused stuff, and less of the other.

I agree back when i was tossing shit up at times i would say i tossed up new links or edited the thread but it would say edited by me as i was not a mod.

But its been that way sense the start we have lost mods/uploaders/admins along the way due to certain debates/issues.

So its a 50/50 from me.

Im not sure what games this happened to, uploaders and other staff know to edit a thread silently if its just adding links or some other edits that arent actual game updates. Sometimes accidents happen but that should be rare. As of right now when i look at the LU page there are tons of games saying they were updated 5 hours ago and thats not true so there seems to be an LU page error atm. i informed the devs to go check it out.

When I report an update to a game, the game is updated within a few hours (we all live in different time zones, this does not raise any questions). Another question is why it is not visible in LU? As an example, a couple of days ago I asked to update this game, and it was updated, but where is it? I don't see it in LU.
And alas, this is a very typical case.

I can see it in my LU. Set to "All" it's about 11 rows down with 5 per row. Given that its update was yesterday that does kinda highlight the issue with the LU system, I doubt that were 50+ games really all updated in the last two days. In fact, picking one row at random only 1 in 5 was updated in the last two days, and only 2 in 5 were updated this year, but somehow your game from Feb 14th is waaay down the list.

Yeah for me it is saying it was updated 6 hours ago, which isnt true because i updated it like 2 days ago

Bugs....bugs everywhere that's what's the problem.

Ever since the forum update certain functions seem to break every month.

They get fixed and just break again. Sounds more like a code problem.

Yeah but the edgelord-in-chief insists it's fixed and this is all a training problem. But when I suggested he can fix it by dropping anyone who does it wrong after being told, he said "that's not how you run a team." Well, a "team" with toothless leadership is indistinguishable from broken

It's happening to pretty much all - they say updated 7 hours ago when some haven't actually been updated in YEARS.

Oh their not Anonymous. Each edit is logged when, where, and what...

Actuelly was updated by the OP and also marked as an Update... The LU to Dorked Big Time... but it has been like that for ever now..
If we went back to the Old way that always work and was a 2 step process it would be better; however what everyone seemed to want was the rolling or viewing of the preview images.. Well there the rub comes in it is a totally different setup and different routine that seems to have and need the auto updeat thing that just refuses to play nicely...

They meant public not on admin side
Oh I know :)

It's still fucked up but I don't know if it can be fixed where it was "updated" yesterday for almost everything. There is one game that's newer than those. So whoever is updating that makes it look like old stuff is new needs to "DO NAWT."

Yeah its the same set of games always saying updated an hour or two ago.
Yep - again. Which makes the Latest updates" by time (which is the one any sane person would use) about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.
