I Googled the Vatican website, (apparently there's a .va TLD, who knew,) and found this:

Luce, the Vatican's mascot for the event, ties both the Jubilee and the Expo together. She is a pilgrim doll made in the pop culture style and carries many of the symbols of a pilgrim: a missionary cross, staff and boots dirty from walking.

Nothing that explains the shape of the staff tho..

Yeah...the symbolism...but at the end It's like a meshup from Greta T. and a Rachete blue hair girl from a ong navy (ocean viking) human trafficker from Lybia and Italy (i don't remember her name). So the ultra politically correct woke mascot it's served. The actually Pope is the rappresentation of transhumanism. The exact opposite of christian principle.

I mean, what's the point? They already have the most recognizable mascot(s) in the world.

Like what's this mascot even? There is iconography that's nearly 2000 years old. Christ on the cross, the apostles, ... Any of those are well known and instantly recognized. And now they have the hubris to assume they can have some random designer create a more recognizable mascot?
