Porn has (in one way or another) indirectly driven technological advancement. I've been seeing more and more videos of more realistic companion robots. We're still in the uncanny valley stage of things, and these robots are ridiculously expensive and are prototypes. They ARE getting more advanced though, and serious money is being put behind their development. Ultimately, they don't even have to be hyper intelligent to go mainstream. I've dated actual women that probably couldn't pass the turning test. They just have to look and function the part so sentience isn't necessarily important.

What happens to the porn industry or relationships in general when we master the art of realistic companions?

My guess is there will be a widespread campaign to socially stigmatize anyone that buys or interacts with these robots, but that will be short lived. Inevitably, companion bots will gradually phase out relationships and the digital porn industry. A large scale movement of traditional relationships will be enacted but it will lose steam when you can design and bang literally any partner of your choosing.

Most likely what happens is a hard-shift back to seemingly 'traditional' relationships but with the porn industry (and women in general) losing a lot of interest/power. With the ability to craft a perfect waifu (and exo-wombs already existing) you're looking at a future where guys walk around with their dream wives, have kids, etc.

It'll be like the Industrial Revolution, but for anything that relies on sex to survive.

As well as robot friends, children, etc. Simultaneously, large sections of society will find themselves struggling like never before with a kind of hollow loneliness they can't define or understand as their interactions with other people are steadily replaced with simulated interactions with programs. I figure people will spend a good while trying to convince themselves they're satisfied or even happy before some kind of societal critical point gets breached and everyone realizes their robots aren't really that fulfilling.

I think the robots will be pretty fulfilling and their tactile nature will sharply decrease loneliness compared to the isolation people live in now. Even just getting a pet sharply decreases odds of suicide and raises happiness and a real/'real' wife equivalent will do that even moreso.

I disagree on the robot children angle though. Children born from sold or cloned eggs, sure, but robot children are fundamentally a fad since they can't grow up or enter society, they basically just LARP as kids.

I think that's a function of the same trend, though. People have gotten hugely more pet-obsessed in the last few decades, and I think that corresponds with the loneliness and isolation. The pets give us someone to interact with that has no actual independent will we're bound to respect; they don't argue with us, vote for people we don't like, disappoint us, break our hearts, etc. Total unconditional affection without the emotional effort required by human relationships. Exactly what we want when we're simultaneously lonely for lack of companionship and frightened to expose ourselves to human companionship that we don't really have the skills for.

For the same reasons, I think that's exactly what people will be drawn to. Kids that never frighten us, that we never stay up at night worrying or crying for, that never misbehave for reasons we can't get to the bottom of, that never curse and scream at us for trying to do what's best for them, that never grow up and decide not to talk to us for perceived sins we can't understand and they won't explain. Just an idealized saccharine facsimile of parenthood to match the sexbot-shaped idealized saccharine facsimile of a marriage.

For real, though, the sex-bot thing will be a Darwin threshold, I think. All the people that are willing to shut themselves in their room and just fuck their sexbot until they die will be removed from the gene pool. The people that don't want that, will be out reproducing.

I don't *want* that to happen, but it's inevitable. People get culled either through war or self-destruction. If I'm being honest, I'm in the "if you want to die alone and childless, that's your business" camp. What you do with your life is none of my business. You're an adult. (I don't know if it needs to be, but I'll say it anyway: this is the royal "you." I'm not talking to anyone in particular in this thread or on this site.)

Here's the thing, when it comes to predictions like this, there's usually a process that happens, and depending on the process, it can be a slow-burn, or a sudden shift, or a mix of both. I see a slow evolution that one day drastically changes the social climate.
It'll start with the porn industry spending A LOT of money trying to smother any news of sex bots being a thing. Even sex dolls, the realistic ones, are not advertised on ANY porn sites. Have you noticed that? You get the occasional video of a guy or girl using a doll, but usually you have to go looking for it. Sex bots will face the exact same thing.
This will not be enough, however. Sex Dolls will absolutely break headlines, and it will be the very center of every conversation at every table in the world. People will connect it to politics, gender discussions, hate crimes, race issues, business talks, media reviews, video games, every single thing under the sun is gonna become attached to it. People will be having several moral discussions, you'll see tons of Youtube videos and Twitch streamers talking about their opinions on the subject. You'll see therapists who say it is great and can help people with intimacy issues, and just as many saying it's only gonna make things worse. But alas, the only people whose opinions will matter are the people who buy one.
Being that something like 90% of the male population in the world is single, I'd be very surprised if the company that sells the first convincing sex bot didn't see their net worth skyrocket overnight. We're not talking about some commodity here. We're talking about something that literally feeds into the desires of single people. And being that most of these single people have intimacy issues, their desires are strong. Once the first bots fly off the shelves, that's what will bury the coffin. The company will be able to mass produce more and more, and soon after, real women will literally be overlooked in favor of these things in regards to companionship.

This is why I've been convincing women in my life to start developing better habits, get a hobby, and learn better communication skills, as most studies have shown that women are really shitty at communication, and bad at keeping a stable life. but it's hard, I have to do it slowly and build influence and show them why it's worth it.

Now, is the sex bot bad or good? idk. That's entirely up to interpretation. I simply think it will only have as much control over people as they allow it. But the only way to prevent such a thing from holding control over someone is for them to learn to deal with their issues around communication and intimacy. Which isn't gonna happen cuz most men think women don't give a shit. which isn't true, but it creates a self-fulfilling prophecy.
