So many 0.1

perhaps many people go into it thinking of simple things and realize lots of things they hadn't thought of, making their vision of their project almost impossible for them. And also afraid of a non-return on investment of time and money.

Worse yet is the 0.1 games with very bold descriptions of what the game is going to achieve, and then in the Dev Notes you read "This is my first attempt at programming and I barely speak English."

Oh dude, you have no idea what you've got yourself into.

Idk if this has been talked about yet or not but not even just on this site on some of the others I check like Fuck95 and fap nation there have been so many new 0.1 games come out that never see an update again. Just wondering what has been goin on with that if more are just practicing making a small game/demo then releasing it fun or if theres gonna be any hope for some of them because some do look very promising.
F95 is also quite toxic to a new game dev. That place and it's community can cause devs to abandon games. I've seen how some devs just stop interacting with the denizens there because how bad they get.

Or 1 mod/admin doesn't like something (even though another approved it) and it gets deleted. Usually done by Red Knutsack.

I think this mainly stems from the fact that developing a game requires a lot of work, and developers lose interest in continuing it after the first release. I've also occasionally read that development is halted because the feedback primarily includes what people absolutely want in the game or what they definitely don't want, which doesn't align with the developers' original vision for the game.

Making games is harder than people expect. A great game requires commitment and time, which is hard to find when bills need to be payed.

Some expect to be making high end dev money right away and wonder why hardly anyone supports a .1, when they get abandoned half the time and you don't really know if it would be worth it even if it went on.

Yeah it can be frustrating watching an overly ambitious dev not realize what they've gotten into

I guess it could also be just a sign of these sites getting more popular. I may be wrong about all the facts in the following, so please correct me if that's the case, but here is my impression: I think itch.io has had this phenomenon for much longer. Where it used to be the case that games from itch.io normally made it to sites like f-95 and this one only after they had a few releases and got some traction, some games are now released on porn game sites immediately and sometimes not, or only later, on itch.io.

Yeah it is pretty much what was already said here. Many start the journey but few finish it.

I'm certainly not going to support anything until there are sex scenes of a type NOT ending in "job." Learned that from too many blueball games. And of course until it's good - and doesn't have shit like futa or ntr.

I think a lot of people see an opening, especially games with AI art, and launch a 0.1, realise people won't support them until they actually make something worthwhile then stop making more content or move on to try another 0.1 release.

I'd guess the first release is the most work, isn't it? The creation of the models, UI, etc.

If you're going to stop after the first version of the game, you might as well not start...

I think that a lot of first-time Devs simply don't realise the sheer scale of work and commitment required to keep creating updates.....not to mention the inevitable financial pressures 💲💲

My hat is off to those Devs that actually produce good - and complete - VNs; I wish that I possessed your level of determination and creativity! (y)(y)(y)

When i made 0.1 I took my time and had to learn a lot, it probably took me 6 months. Then I decided to make 0.2 to see if i really liked it and would and could stick with it. 0.2 took another 6 or 8 months.
A big mistake I made was to do it all on my own. I should have posted in the prerelease forums and got help and picked up tricks and tips.

The initial release and the inevitable hate you'll get for the oddest little details is a cold bucket of water on anyone's motivation but you gotta learn to ignore the ignorant and appreciate your support.
I didn't have it too bad but some early releases really get hammer with toxicity and i understand how it can kill a project.

Money is the next thing. Don't expect to earn more than tips, it's a hobby and some do make it into a living but most don't and can't.
