Overview:​

New Year's Day(e) is the continuing story of a single father (MC) and his stepdaughters, Evelynne (Eve) and Dayton (Daye) and their friends Becky and Kaylee. This is the sequel to the story "
Christmas Eve
". If you haven't read that, I encourage you to read it first, but it's not absolutely necessary in order to enjoy this story. This is a love story of acceptance, coming of age, and healing as the MC's family and friends continue to come to terms with their developing feelings for each other and their grief felt for the MC's late wife, Heather.

As I've said before, this chapter is a little shorter than normal. While it has a decent amount of content, it mostly serves as a setup for the final chapter.

This is chapter 3. It has taken a little longer than usual for me to get this out, but I have been having a rough time this year. Luckily, I have creative outlets like this one to help channel negative energy into. Enough about my boring life. What about this chapter?!
In this chapter, we will see the resolution of the problems between Kaylee and her mom. We will meet Becky's little sister Olivia and uncover some as of yet unknown things about the MC's past. I've tried to include a few foreshadowing clues here and there, some are more subtle than others, so keep an eye out.
We will also see how the big New Year's party is shaping up and there are some really great things that happen with our titular characters.
While I touted earlier that this chapter is not nearly as dark as chapter 2, I will say that for the majority if the time this is true, but watch out for the ending of this one, it's a doozy.

I have received a lot of feedback about NYD chapter 2 over the past couple of weeks. Some was good, some was not so good. All of it is greatly appreciated, so thanks! It's because of this feedback that some errors were brought to my attention. It seems that I failed at conveying certain ideas, and in doing so, kinda screwed up the whole tone/feel of the story. I Have gone back and rewritten several parts of the story. While the overarching story line hasn't really changed, the MC's character arch is much more clear. I think that this update is a much more comprehensive version of the story I originally set out to tell in chapter 2. I think it stays more true to the original tone of Christmas Eve and NYD Chapter 1.
So, feel free to download v0.2.4 and replay it to get the full understanding of what was going on in the MC's head during all of this drama, and let me know what you think.

I feel I have grown a lot as a dev in the past few months, and I hope it shows here. Please, play it and let me now what you think.

No, but this release doesn't need one yet. Nothing sufficiently specific that would need one has been said, since it plays off the relationships established in Christmas Eve. The relevant girls call the MC 'Daddy' or 'Dad', and he calls them his daughters when it comes up.

I just started it, and Eve called him stepdad. It was like the second or third line of dialog. I'll wait for a patch, even that was enough to put me off till it's fixed. It would change the whole tone of everything after it for me even if it was the only time without a patch where one of the girls says it.

Aha, huh, I missed that. That said, it's a simple change. You could even just remove the word "step" in that line in the code yourself as an incest patch, since that's the only place it matters.

New Years Day(e) has ruined Christmas Eve and the whole story for me. This game was better than the Petal games, which it is heavy influenced by, but now it is so damaged. Daye and the friend going full lesbian out of nowhere and behind the father’s back and more that has happens since the end of Christmas Eve has just ruined it. I wish it had just ended with the morning in the cabin and been left for our imaginations to fill in what happened when they go home… another game ruins itself for no reason…

Nothing wrong with the MC raising another man’s kids. But the whole 180 screws up the first games set up, and the timeline becomes a mess. And for me there is something wrong with the mother of those kids training them to have sex with another man. Yeah I am also super annoyed at the incest bait and switch, but also, it fundamentally makes the story a totally different one from what was set up in the first game. Adding in some other guy serves zero purpose for the story as it was set up and had been going, it only serves to foil what was established before at best, and set up some kind of bs content later at worst (and with the lesbian betrayal the game already has I have zero faith that there will not be some kind of turn towards more betrayal later). If he will never show up in the game or do things with the girls (or try to do thing) then why even fuck over the whole set up to add him in? And if it was added in the hopes of keeping the game safe from the Patreon police then that is silly because step-cest will get hammered too.

But yeah, I am getting more and more frustrated with AVNs as of late. After getting blindsided multiple times by surprise NTR, several developers down right lying repeatedly, and games after years of development changing corse… I’ve lost nearly all of my patience for these kinds of antics. The basic premise was a simple incest-harem. The first games made it clear what the set up was and the start of the second built on that. Then suddenly the girls have all these bisexual leaning, so much so they betray the MC and do stuff behind his back, and now another guy is randomly added in and retcons the entire set up of the first game.

Finally. I’m not trying to come across as a dick, so I hope it doesn’t. Nothing I said has anything to do with IRL step-dads who are often some of the most selfless people out there.

They are not blood related, if that is what you are wondering. But he raised them, they see him as his real father, and he loves them as his real daughters. The girls barely know who their biological father was.
They only call the MC dad or daddy, and he calls them his daughters and takes care of them as a loving father.
The step-dad mentioning was basically a cliffhanger between patches/chapters. And is easily ignored and forgotten if you want to and the blood relation is that important.

The game is great though… It's in my top 3 of incest game. And Jonesy has quickly become one of my favorite creators.
If you are at all in to Lockhart games, you could enjoy this. Since the first game was inspired by A Petal among Thorns. The story is sweet and well written, the models are fantastic. The scenes are real hot, long and well-thought-out. Their some real cinematography thinking going on with those lewd scenes. The last lewd scene of chapter three blew my mind. Was not prepared for it at all (in a good way)
I recommend you start with Christmas Eve if you decide to try it. Since New years Daye starts right where Christmas Eve ends.

Stepcest is done for (1) local legal reasons; or (2) because the writer/dev are squeamish about blood-related incest of pixels; or (3) because people think (incorrectly) that Patreon doesn't care. (Which is mostly because that's what they see mainstream porn doing, but that's for entirely different marketability reasons.)

In this game's case, so far it's just completely unnecessary other than generating the stupid 0.2 cliffhanger that was instantly resolved in 0.3. (Spoiler: the girls' bio dad is dead and has been for a long time; the package was a bullshit prank by the bully girls)

For me, the relationship is more important than the blood. If a guy has been there as long as, the girls can remember. The blood does not matter. He is their father. Only DNA would tell you otherwise at that point.
But I do respect strong kinks, I get it. Butt, since the great sea of kinks and fetishes can either be too wide or extremely limited. I decided just to not close my self in and be able to enjoy most games. So whenever I see something I don't like, I click past it and/or pretend it did not happen. If it's possible.
In this case, I would very much argue that it is.
Don't remember if how it's brought up in Christmas Eve, but it's mention in passing and quickly moved on from each time.

As for why or how the step-cest It's unnecessary to speculate. As far as I know, it could be just because he likes the story that way, or it could be a bigger plot reason coming down the line. Either way, it does not matter.
It's Jonesey creation and his creative vision. And that is something I respect wholeheartedly.
