Usually self-insert or a name that would fit the region/setting of the story.

Usually when a game asks me to name my character I just go with some kind of sound effect like "Ugh" "Blah" or "Swoooosh". The name just doesn't matter to me.

Depends on the context. Usually a name based on what I want to roleplay as unless the game has done something to piss me off, then it's text input abuse like making my name in Fate/Extella "my mother"

I use 3 different name depending on the genre..
Dax for ntr type games
Daz for futa/trans games (female transformation name is always Dazzle)
Dex for all other genres

I chose these because I've never seen those names in a game, helps to separate me from any common names
Plus that's what the voices in my head told me to use ;-)

Unless there's some sort of canon name, such as "Link" in Zelda games, i just put my name there. Sometimes i just want to be silly and name the character Anon or John [Game name]

If the developer suggests choosing the name of the main character, I usually enter my real name, Alex.

I only change the name of the mc if i can create my character, otherwise, i keep the "real" name of the mc.
If any of that fails, i choose a name randomly, or sometimes just choose a letter and go from there!

If it's a japanese game I name my character Gaijin
