RP games tend to be worse than the ones where the devs make their own art, but there are definitely exceptions. Sometimes RP devs just take a minimum amount of effort and throw in some "hot" scenes and call it a day. It's a bit harder to do that when you actually need to put in effort to create the art in the first place.
But when the story is good and the scenes aren't just thrown together nilly-willy it can result in really good games.
