In the US it's the norm. Not having it done is considered unhygenic. It would lead to being made fun of in gym class/locker room and most US women think uncircumcised is weird/gross.

I've never encountered a problem like this before. It's true, I haven't self-pleasured in a long time. When I was a teenager (before my army service) I preferred to spend my money on beer rather than lubricant. After the army, I met my future wife, and the problem of self-satisfaction somehow died by itself.

Silicone-based lube is good if you want a thicker sensation than water-based lube. I personally prefer silicone. Saliva is a good substitute for emergencies, but it doesn't glide as much. I honestly feel more pleasure using lube.

It's not for religious reasons in the US. It's for hygenic. Also, originally it was also intended to try to prevent masturbation. Plus the fact they know the trauma it could cause by being picked on in the locker room and that most women here find uncircumcized gross.

Yeah, that's kind of what I mean. No reason. You are slicing skin because you have been slicing skin. That isn't a reason.
It's just creating a new justification that holds up to present day scrutiny because the alternative is to stop a weird ritualistic tradition that wasn't justified to begin with.

Hygiene: You don't automatically become better at cleaning yourself because someone lops a piece of skin off.
Preventing masturbation: It doesn't prevent masturbation.
Picked on in locker room: Why would that happen unless there was a culture reinforcing that men should be circumcised?
Women find uncircumcised gross: Why would they think that unless there was a culture reinforcing that it is disgusting to be uncircumcised?

yeah it's quite sad, and that it still goes on is quite disheartening. I think the percentages of circumcisions are rapidly decreasing over the years so there is hope it'll be a thing of the past in the not so distant future, i hope.

I have no idea how common it is now. I'm 50 and when I was growing up it would have been almost unheard of for it not to have been done. Even in the 90s on Seinfeld one of the characters asked Elaine (who was not Jewish) if she ever saw an uncircumcised one and she said something like "once, and it was really weird"
