[Site News] LewdCorner Infrastructure Update: Moving to Zurich, Switzerland

LewdCorner Is Moving to Zurich, Switzerland

Just an update on a change we are currently planning for LewdCorner.

The site is presently hosted on a server in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is not hosted in the United States, but we have decided that moving the server to Zurich, Switzerland is the better long-term choice for LewdCorner.

The new server will be slightly more expensive, but not by much. The additional cost is worthwhile because the location of the physical server affects which jurisdiction governs the infrastructure, how outside legal requests must be handled, and how much direct pressure foreign governments can place on the hosting provider.

Why move from Amsterdam to Zurich?

The Netherlands is part of the European Union and its broader legal and regulatory system. While Amsterdam has worked for us, we would rather move LewdCorner’s infrastructure outside both the United States and the European Union.

Switzerland has its own independent legal system, privacy laws and procedures for handling requests from foreign authorities. Moving to Zurich does not make LewdCorner untouchable, nor does it mean legitimate legal requests or reports can simply be ignored. It does, however, mean that outside governments cannot automatically treat the server as infrastructure located inside their own jurisdiction.

Requests involving a Swiss server generally have to be handled through the appropriate Swiss legal process instead of an American state or another foreign authority simply sending demands and expecting immediate compliance.

That additional jurisdictional separation is important for the privacy and long-term stability of LewdCorner.

And yes, this includes the American age-verification mess.

Several American states are continuing to push age-verification laws that pressure adult websites into requiring visitors to provide identification, facial scans, third-party verification or other personal information simply to access lawful adult content.

LewdCorner is not interested in collecting government identification from members, building a database of verified identities or forcing users to hand sensitive information to some outside verification company.

Moving the physical infrastructure to Switzerland does not create a magical exemption from every law in the world, but it puts the server itself outside direct American and EU jurisdiction and makes American state-level demands significantly less direct.

So, to put it bluntly:

For the infrastructure side of LewdCorner, moving to Switzerland is basically us telling the USA to fuck off with the age-verification shit.

We would rather operate from a jurisdiction that provides stronger separation and requires proper legal procedures than leave the site somewhere more exposed to constantly changing foreign regulations.

This is not an emergency announcement.

LewdCorner is not shutting down, and there is no immediate danger to the site. We are also not going to rush the migration and risk downtime, broken files or lost data.

The move will happen as soon as it is practical to do it correctly. The new server must first be ordered, configured, secured and fully tested. After that, the database, attachments and remaining site data will be transferred and verified before LewdCorner is switched over.

Members may experience a short period of maintenance when the final migration occurs, but we will provide another update before that happens.

The new server and migration will be covered as part of LewdCorner’s normal operating costs. Anyone who would like to help support the server move and continued operation of the site can donate here:

Donations are always appreciated and help keep LewdCorner online, independent and under our control, but this is not an urgent fundraising request.
Okay

Still, I'd recommend a local data back up just in case of a Iwara&Cloudflare situation.

All the best for the site, may we still have some sense of freedom

Excellent choice!

All that age verification Bullshit is hella annoying, not to mention more than just sketchy, its outright insidious.
Especially when you look at what asked, who asks and what already surfaced or was otherwise leaked...

Good news; better than annouceing your girlfriend's cat's funeral.

Good luck with Zurich!
